Hereford Yoga Centre is a community-focused Iyengar Yoga facility for Hereford. Classes for all levels and subsidised projects for those most in need!

We’ll be keeping it cool this week. Blinds down, ventilators and fans on, and a specially adapted practice programme for the heat wave.

Here’s what someone said after the last one in May- ‘I wasn’t sure about coming because I do suffer from the heat. But I’m so glad I did- it’s amazing how the adaptations can have that cooling effect’.

Remember we have the online option as well if you’d prefer to join classes from home!

We’re excited to share some important news — Hereford Yoga is becoming a charity.

After more than 11 years as a Community Interest Company (CIC), we are beginning the next chapter of our journey as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).

What began as an idea around a kitchen table has grown into a thriving community organisation: supporting health and wellbeing across Herefordshire, creating jobs, developing innovative projects, and helping make yoga more accessible to people from all walks of life.

Becoming a charity will allow us to build on this work and strengthen our future, with greater opportunities for fundraising, community support and long-term sustainability. Most importantly, it reflects our ongoing commitment to bringing the benefits of yoga to the whole community — regardless of age, ability, gender, ethnicity, socio-economic background or sexuality.

As part of this transition, we are looking for new Trustees to help shape the future of Hereford Yoga.

We would especially (but not exclusively) love to hear from people with experience in charitable governance, health or education, as well as those from underrepresented backgrounds, younger people and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Experience of the benefits of Iyengar yoga is essential.

If you are interested in finding out more, just drop us an email- we’d love to hear from you!

Expressions of interest should be sent by email before 31 July 2026.

June's Prānāyāma class is this evening, Sunday, 14 June, 6.30-8 pm.

Highly recommended as a partner to āsana (postural) practice, these classes explore the yogic art of breathing. Suitable for those who have been attending āsana classes regularly for 2+ years.

"Prānāyāma is the extension and expansion of the vital energy. It creates a calm mind, a steady will and sound judgement." B.K.S. Iyengar, Light on Yoga

Please note that there will be no prānāyāma classes in July or August. The next class will be on Sunday, 13 September, so this Sunday's class is not to be missed!

We look forward to seeing you.

We will miss Bobby very much. She was such a fun person to be around- so full of ideas and brimming with enthusiasm and inspiration. What an amazing role-model and brilliant mentor to younger generations of Iyengar yoga teachers. Her legacy is deep and wide. We especially celebrate the creative approach she always had to practising and teaching āsana and prānāyāma, and the serious study she made of the benefits of the practice for women. We’re grateful that she was able to do what she loved right up to the end of her life, and also so sorry that she died so suddenly- a great shock to the Iyengar yoga community. Deepest sympathy and love to her family.

We’re closed for today’s Bank Holiday, Monday 25 May, with classes resuming as normal from Tuesday 26 May.

This week is going to be HOT! But don’t let that put you off coming to class. We’ll be practising cooling sequences in response to the heat wave- a great way to be still and let everything settle.

Our Prānāyāma class returns this Sunday, 17th May, 6.30-8 pm.

Prānāyāma is the fourth of yoga's eight petals, and acts as a bridge between the external and internal landscapes of experience. It is an essential accompaniment to āsana in the practice of classical yoga.

B.K.S. Iyengar said, "The primary aim of yoga is to restore the mind to simplicity, peace, and poise." Prānāyāma offers the perfect framework through which to achieve this aim.

If you've been attending Iyengar yoga classes regularly for more than 18 months, do come along and discover the simple peace of aligning body, breath and mind.

The class is also available online- many students choose the live-stream option, practice from the comfort of their own home and then roll into bed!

We look forward to seeing you.

Sunday 17 May | 6:30 - 8pm

• Available in-studio and online

• £12 (10% discount for concessions)

I’m always amazed when people manage to leave their shoes- sign of a really profound yoga practice?! Last week my dad left his trousers after class (yeah he was wearing shorts).

Toolkit for Gardeners:

It’s been a while since we’ve shared an Iyengar yoga toolkit; this one includes a short sequence option (approx 20 mins)or a longer one (approx 40 mins) if you’re getting into it and have the time- scroll along and save for later.

If you’re spending a lot of time in the garden, you may well be feeling it in your back and hips. We’ve made this toolkit to reduce those aches and pains - spreading the back, mobilising hips and letting everything feel a bit more spacious.

Gardening not your thing? This could be practised after any activity that has a hard on the back/hips- and we also have a wide range of other Toolkits available for free on our website. Head to the Home Practice page and explore. Suggestions welcome on what we should cover next time!
