KS1 Stars of the Week

Another fantastic week in KS1. A huge well done to everyone for their awards this week - such positive things being seen inside and outside of school ⭐️

Year 3

Year 3 used their map skills to follow a route and identify the human and physical features. We also compared older maps of Hereford and compared how things had changed and why.

Year 2 🌿

Year 2 have had a lovely time visiting Bartonsham Meadows which is part of the Herefordshire Wildlife Trust. To start our Science topic of Plants and Growing the children explore the meadows and what grows there. They looked at seed dispersal and how different seeds travel and grow. In class the children have been eager to try this and have begun to test if we can grow what we eat by planting tomatoes, raspberries and strawberries. It’s been great to hear they have been trying this at home too. Thank you to Jenny and the team for all of their help.

Year 2 🦋

Over the past few weeks Year 2 have had some very important visitors. As part of their work on life cycles the children have seen caterpillars turn into butterflies. They were fascinated by the process and were very excited to release the grown butterflies into the Eco Garden. The children looked after them so well that the butterflies took a long time to decide they wanted to leave! The children have been eager to come into school and let their friends know if they think they have seen the butterflies out and about.

On Wednesday 17th June we have our next Rags2Riches collection. If you have any old but usable clothes or paired shoes to donate please place it in bags under the shelter by 9am on Wednesday morning. All money raised will be used by the Community Crew for to buy items for the school Food Bank and other projects within our school community.

Welsh Water

Today we had a visit from Jessica from Welsh Water. She talked to us about how we get clean water, how to save water and how to be safe near reservoirs this summer.

Did you know if you leave the tap running while brushing your teeth for 2 minutes you will waste 18 litres of water!! We brushed the big teeth and left the tap running to test it out.

The children helped out in assembly and then Jessica did a workshop with the eco reps and Year 6 where we looked at water saving devices such as Hippo bags which are placed in the cistern of a toilet to displace water saving 2.5 - 3.5 litres for every flush! We also learnt about pressing the smaller flush button on the toilet to save some water and using the eco setting on the washing machine which saves water and energy.

A big thanks to Welsh Water for coming out to see us!

Remember, turn off the tap! Water is precious, involves a huge process to get it to our homes and costs £££££!

Year 1 - Roaming Reptiles

Last week we had a visit from Roaming Reptiles. We met Nipper the scorpion, Rupert the corn snake, Zilla the bearded dragon, Daisy the royal python, Archie the tortoise and Peppa the chilli rose tarantula. Check out these fantastic photos. We have been learning all about different animal groups. Ask your child to tell you the key features of a reptile!

Year 5 had an unforgettable school trip at the SnowDome! ❄️⛷️⛸️

The children had the best time taking part in three exciting activities: skiing, ice skating and fun in the snow park. There were smiles, laughter and plenty of memorable moments made throughout the day! They represented the school brilliantly and made the most of every opportunity 🤩
