The change in routine, pressure of demands for ‘fun’ days out and navigating different transitions can make for really tricky holidays. Great tips here from Herefordshire Mind

I talk about IPSEA a lot, it’s such a fantastic resource for information and template letters regarding SEN. This EHCP checklist is incredibly useful to ensure the long waited for and much sought after Draft EHCP is as helpful as possible for your child. 🌻
✅️ Download our EHC plan checklist
EHC plans can be lengthy and complex. They are required by law to contain certain sections, and it is important to ensure your EHC plan matches the legal requirements. If it doesn’t, it could make it difficult to enforce.
An EHC plan should be written in a way that makes it clear to parents, young people, schools, colleges and local authorities, who is required to do what, when it has to happen and how often it should be reviewed.
To help ensure your child's EHC plan complies with the law, we've created an EHC plan checklist.

I feel strongly about this, having been the ‘professional’ (why do their views hold more weight???) and the parent. As a parent of my children my views are deemed not as important as a professional’s despite often having the same training as them 🤷🏻♀️ So many parents I work with feel unheard and disregarded and what does it matter who reports what - ‘mum reports…’, ‘the senco reports that ….’ Etc as if it’s true it doesn’t matter who said it
Each parent is the professional about their child!

Such exciting news!
We are absolutely thrilled to announce the launch of The Haven, a brand new online learning centre created with neurodivergent young people (aged 13-17) at its heart! Created by Autistic Girls Network charity, you can be sure of a neuro-affirming, nurturing environment where young people can learn in a way that works for them.
At The Haven, we believe in celebrating the unique strengths and brilliance of every learner. We're building a supportive and understanding online community where you can feel truly seen, heard, and empowered to thrive.
Think of The Haven as more than just an online school – it's a haven for learning, growth, and connection. We're passionate about providing a neuro-affirming environment where you can learn in ways that work best for you, connect with like-minded peers, and develop a strong sense of self-identity.
We're so excited to embark on this journey with you! Keep an eye on this page for updates, insights into our unique approach, and ways to get involved.
We can't wait to welcome you to The Haven community!

This picture is from last summer when we went to Pembrokeshire. I’ve used an old picture as there is a reason I don’t have any from this Easter 🐣 holidays.
You can see that my youngest has no shoes on and didn’t put them on for the whole walk. Looking back I can see now that this was the start of her ‘running out’ of ability to cope or mask. I remember thinking that we’re on holiday so should go for a walk as that’s what you ‘should’ do - *spoiler* The walk was a disaster! Obviously she had shoes but on that day she was finding it difficult to wear them from sensory input and the demand of needing to.
Managing the needs of 3 autistic children, all with very different needs and profiles, an AuDHD adult (me☺️) and trying to fit in with societies expectations just led to overwhelm.
I now try to ensure what we do is as low pressure as possible and constantly reevaluate the need to do it at all especially when the child is struggling, in burnout or recovering.
🌸‘Why do we need to do this?’,
🌸‘Is there another way I can make it easier?’
🌸‘can we try it at another time?’
are questions I ask myself when I can see their anxiety rising and I realise that what I was expecting them to do was ‘fit in’ to societies norm. So this Easter we are just doing what they feel comfortable with and I’m trying very hard to not feel guilty about what we ‘should’ be doing.
