Tonight it gave me great pleasure to award my long term student, great friend, and right-hand man Patrick Baker the 3rd degree on his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt.

Promotions at The Combat Academy are based upon the following:

* Contribution to the growth and development of Equipe TCA.

Pat has been training BJJ with me for over 24 years.
His belts have been awarded as follows:
Blue Belt July 2007
Purple Belt December 2009
Brown Belt February 2013
Black Belt August 2017
Black Belt 1st degree September 2020
Black Belt 2nd degree August 2023

Pat has competed in many BJJ events in Brazil, America, Portugal and throughout the UK. This has included the IBJJF Master & Seniors, IBJJF New York Open, and IBJJF European Championships on numerous occasions.
He has undertaken two training trips to Brazil which included taking the Gold medal at the 2009 IBJJF Master and Seniors at the legendary venue, Tennis Clube de Tijuca.
A regular competitor at events throughout the UK, as far back in time to the old days of Seni and the Kent Open, and in more recent times The National Masters, British Open, English Open, Welsh Open, Bristol Open and many others.

Often with no one to fight in his own category, rather than collect default gold medals, Pat has stepped up a weight category or down one or more age categories, even competing in the adult divisions, just to get a fight.

Since his promotion to Black Belt, Pat has continued to build his competition record both in the U.K. and overseas competing at the following events.
National Masters champion.
National Masters bronze medal.
IBJJF New York Open bronze medal (taking a 3rd degree Black Belt to a referees decision).

A regular on the refereeing circuit in the U.K. Pat has been the man in the middle at many of the top BJJ events including, the BJJ British Open, English Open, Welsh Open, National Masters and Elite Junior World and European Championships.

Pat has been an absolute stalwart club member, playing a major part in running our events and carrying out endless amounts of DIY at the club. He runs the popular masters class on a Monday evening. He is a club man through and through.

Often as the first point of contact, Pat has welcomed and encouraged countless new students when they first walked through our front doors.

Be it helping newbies out at training, or encouraging and coaching his teammates at competitions, Pat is certainly on the case for this Carlos 'commandment.'

On Sunday December 13th we will be holding our club championships.

Categories

Tiny Taz BJJ (no submissions)
Junior BJJ
Tiny Taz Ju Jutsu Kumite (no submissions)
Junior Ju Jitsu Kumite
The categories will be arranged in age groups and by weight.

Rules: We will be explaining the rule sets for the different categories in class over the coming months.

You will need a Gi and belt to take part in this event.
