Mrs Hirons and Mrs Roden become licenced Thrive Practioners

What is the Thrive approach?

The Thrive approach is a therapeutic technique to help support young people with their social and emotional development. Our focus is to build secure relationships and provide positive experiences for young people. Thrive helps young people to feel safe, supported and understood; all of which are needed to enable learning to take place.

How do we do this?

We aim to screen all children and young people against age related expectations, which will enable us to identify those that would benefit from additional support, either as a group or individually.
We use a range of simple strategies and activities that are targeted and effective to meet the child or group’s identified needs. These strategies and activities encourage positive relationships and are often creative and art-based.
We then chart and measure the progress of individuals and groups over time through a review and re-assessment process. The goal is to bring children to an age-appropriate stage of social and emotional development in order to ‘Thrive’.
Your Licensed Thrive Practitioners are Mrs Hirons [email protected] & Mrs Roden [email protected] If you have any questions then please get in contact and they would be happy to help.

Following the successful bid, as voted for by the students, we have managed to replace the long standing football goals at Kingstone. The goals needed replacing as they no longer conformed to regulations and were unsafe to use.

The new goals have proved popular with the students, giving a more professional feel to lessons, training and fixtures. This has been matched with the success on the pitch this year, with 5 of our 8 representative teams qualifying for the knock out semi finals, with the winners getting to progress to Edgar Street. Our Year 9 team have also managed to advance to the final of the Rural Cup, being held at Edgar Street, 6pm kick off on 10th May. A number of teams across the age groups, both boys and girls' teams, have had success in the National Cups as well. We hope that this is the beginning of a long journey of success for football at Kingstone.

The honour of "christening" the new nets went to Year 10 student Harley Price as he struck first in a very impressive 4-1 win for the Year 10 team vs St Mary's.

Thanks to all that contributed towards the funding, the PTA team that for the fundraising events, and finally, to the students that voted for our bid.

Key Stage 3 students at Kingstone High School marked Holocaust Memorial Day on Friday 27th January with a ‘Drop Down Day’ where students had a series of special lessons to find out more and reflect on the events of the Holocaust. This included a lower school assembly and work looking at the roles played by Perpetrators, Collaborators, Bystanders and Resisters. Students also looked at artwork portraying the Holocaust and learnt about the Jewish practise of using stones as memorials. The day culminated with students finding the name of a Holocaust victim and decorating a stone in their memory. The stones were then used to create a cairn in the school grounds to remember the day and the events of the Holocaust. Mr Booy, the school’s SPHERE Coordinator, said ‘Each year we like to come together as a school to raise awareness and focus on a particular event or theme. This year we chose the Holocaust as it is important that students do not forget and can actually speak out against actions of genocide that unfortunately continue around the world to this day. Thank you to B&Q Hereford for providing the stones at a discounted rate.’
