Cat Feet on Spaniels 🐾

One of my favourite finishing touches on a spaniel groom is creating neat, compact cat-like feet.

Using a soft brush, I lift the hair between the toes before carefully trimming away the excess with small straight scissors. A final tidy with blending scissors leaves a beautifully natural finish.

It’s not just about looks, either. Every foot trim is a chance to check the nails, pads and between the toes for any problems. At this time of year, we’re especially on the lookout for grass seeds, which can work their way into the feet and cause painful infections.

A rescue dog and now a much-loved old gentleman, it was wonderful to see him receiving such patient, caring attention throughout his groom.

His spa day included a bath and blow dry, a thorough brush through to ensure he was completely knot-free, a facial tidy, pad tidy, nail trim, a full body clip, neat teddy feet and a beautifully hand-scissored head to finish 🐶

Level 2 student Hannah did a great job prepping Ted the cockapoo for his groom, bathing, drying and brushing him, and clipping him with guidance from tutor Paula. What a handsome chap!

Lovely Milo the Border Terrier came into the salon for his hand strip followed by a bath. He loves being pampered with a gentle face wash 🫧
