Monnow Ballet School

What a night!! I went to see lovely lovely Josh (Butler), who I taught years ago and is now a musical theatre rising star 🤩🥰. Watching him on stage was totally thrilling as he dazzled the audience with his electric performance. So proud, so happy to see him completely in his element - bursting with talent and joie de vivre.

We had the best catch up after 🥰remembering his first ballet class where he flung his foot on the barre - very apt considering his main solo!! 🪩🎆He’s playing the part of Joel Gruber in Ride the Cyclone, go see it if you can. It’s dark, hilarious, utterly bonkers - perfect mix!!

A hot but great day of adult ballet yesterday. Well done everyone 👏💃🕺🩰

We had silver swans ballet, adult syllabus classes of beginner and Grade 6, then a Romeo & Juliet workshop looking at Macmillan vs Bourne’s contrasting styles. Fabulous to see everyone’s creativity and enjoyment shining through. Who knew originally the ballet was to have a happy ending?!

Big thanks to Mary and Sian for some pretty amazing cakes to go with our coffee after 😋.

The next workshop date will be confirmed very soon.

Thursday contemporary dance days:

Ok adults we have 2 classes in the morning.
9:30am chilled you time, no kids allowed
10:30am bring the kids and dance together (kids go free)

Contemporary style, beginners welcome, all gentle/simple to follow moves. Then cool down and stretch it all out 👌all bodies, all abilities. V relaxed 😎

You will feel energised for the day ahead.

Wonderful dancing today from Monnow Ballet’s silver swans 🦢🩰👏
We worked very hard and those attending the afternoon workshop were rewarded with Mary’s delicious cakes and fresh coffee.

We now know ALL about Albrecht’s 32 entrechat six…😁 and the contrasting styles of Giselle through the ages/genres. If that sounds intriguing then come to our Romeo & Juliet adult workshop next Wednesday! Beginners up.

Fabulous silver swans dance class this morning too and syllabus classes covering beginner to Grade 6 level. Great to be back dancing with you all.

A lovely chat with Jan yesterday, one of our Silver Swans and turns out award winning embroiderer. We talked about her idea for a creative dance project based on an embroidered coat that’s special to her and a poem by Yeats on self expression and new beginnings.

If you're a well practised student, never danced before because too busy/tired in school term times, or maybe just never had the chance then read on. Here's what's on offer:

Silver Swans ballet - a gentle ballet class for everyone. With some barre exercises, centre work and a simple dance followed by a cool down and a stretch. All exercises can be followed easily, at your own pace and with no prior knowledge. No upper age limit.

Beginners technique class - for those who want to recap/learn from scratch, basic feet and arm positions and first ballet steps. Also for those who want a shorter class than above, mainly at the barre.

Syllabus class - a high level class for more experienced dancers. Plse check before booking if unsure as it's fast paced and requires a good knowledge of trickier ballet vocab.

Workshops - have fun learning ballet steps and dances based on famous ballets. All levels. We learn the history, the story and adapt well known dances for total beginners up. Tea and cake included.

Adults contemporary - a fun, relaxed class to eclectic music styles that get you moving in a creative way. Ends with a good cool down to stretch out any summer stress.

Family dance class - as above but with the kids! Have fun dancing together. All ages 7+ (grandparents most welcome). No sofa jumping! Dance at your own pace.

A mini Silver Swans ballet trip tonight 🩰to see Mary dancing in the curtain raiser of Ballet Cymru’s international summer school performance. Beautifully danced, well done Mary! You really shone tonight 👏💃.

Also so good to see the upcoming talent of the young dancers starting out in their ballet careers. And to see exerts of Ballet Cymru’s new vision of Sleeping Beauty as well as stunning work by Marcus Willis of Phoenix Dance Theatre. Well done all 👏a real treat!
