Monnow Ballet School Established in 2009 Monnow Ballet School is a small school based around Monmouthshire and Herefordshire. New Silver Swan adult classes also.

Classes are for all ages 3+ who want to enjoy ballet and do the best they can. Optional exams and shows.

Our autumn term has begun and what a great start for children and adults of all ages! Our youngest pupils age 3 are taking their first brave steps so receiving these photos and memories from one of our adult dancers seemed so appropriate to share. Hi Nina,
We first met at ballet when we were about 4/5 years old.
My mum had to take me on the bus to the class.
The first lesson I wouldn’t get off her lap. 🥴
The second trip I wouldn’t leave my mum’s side but actually stood on the floor.
After this she said if I didn’t join in next time she wouldn’t bring me again. 😱
Third bus trip. I began at my mum’s side but Sue ( friend in photo) came up to me and took my hand to join in the class. 67 years later we’re still good friends. 😊
I’m so pleased at doing ballet again. I love your ballet classes.

Our new term starts Saturday 12th September for children’s Royal Academy of Dance classes. Miss Salmon is just a little excited to dance with everyone again! 🥰🩰

This term we have 3 venues for children’s classes:
Mondays & Tuesdays @ Whitchurch & Ganarew Memorial Hall
Wednesdays & Thursdays @ The Old School Room, Abergavenny
Saturdays @ Ewyas Harold Memorial Hall

Children are taught from age 3+ and can either just dance for fun and fitness or take examinations, participate in shows and try for associate auditions at top vocational schools. All are nurtured and celebrated equally.

Our adults’s term has started! This week we have already had contemporary, beginners ballet, silver swans, a higher syllabus class and a creative project meeting.

Monnow Ballet offers classes to suit all adults whatever your dance journey. Fun and fitness are great reasons to dance but if you also want exams, workshops, performances, coffee meet ups, creative projects and dance exchanges then we have all of that too! We are a growing group of fabulously different adults who all share a love of dance 🩰

A group of Monnow Ballet Silver Swans got together to watch Akram Khan’s modern version of Giselle yesterday. After studying it at one of our recent adult workshops it seemed the necessary next step 💃🍷🍕

What a night!! I went to see lovely lovely Josh (Butler), who I taught years ago and is now a musical theatre rising star 🤩🥰. Watching him on stage was totally thrilling as he dazzled the audience with his electric performance. So proud, so happy to see him completely in his element - bursting with talent and joie de vivre.

We had the best catch up after 🥰remembering his first ballet class where he flung his foot on the barre - very apt considering his main solo!! 🪩🎆He’s playing the part of Joel Gruber in Ride the Cyclone, go see it if you can. It’s dark, hilarious, utterly bonkers - perfect mix!!

A hot but great day of adult ballet yesterday. Well done everyone 👏💃🕺🩰

We had silver swans ballet, adult syllabus classes of beginner and Grade 6, then a Romeo & Juliet workshop looking at Macmillan vs Bourne’s contrasting styles. Fabulous to see everyone’s creativity and enjoyment shining through. Who knew originally the ballet was to have a happy ending?!

Big thanks to Mary and Sian for some pretty amazing cakes to go with our coffee after 😋.

The next workshop date will be confirmed very soon.

If you’d like to join an adult class this August you’re most welcome 🤗. We have a few more, see below for details. Great to keep the fitness going. Open to all adults whether Monnow Ballet students or not.

Thursday contemporary dance days:

Ok adults we have 2 classes in the morning.
9:30am chilled you time, no kids allowed
10:30am bring the kids and dance together (kids go free)

Contemporary style, beginners welcome, all gentle/simple to follow moves. Then cool down and stretch it all out 👌all bodies, all abilities. V relaxed 😎

You will feel energised for the day ahead.

Ps no you can’t leave the kids with me after, sorry 😁nice try

Wonderful dancing today from Monnow Ballet’s silver swans 🦢🩰👏
We worked very hard and those attending the afternoon workshop were rewarded with Mary’s delicious cakes and fresh coffee.

We now know ALL about Albrecht’s 32 entrechat six…😁 and the contrasting styles of Giselle through the ages/genres. If that sounds intriguing then come to our Romeo & Juliet adult workshop next Wednesday! Beginners up.

Fabulous silver swans dance class this morning too and syllabus classes covering beginner to Grade 6 level. Great to be back dancing with you all.
