Our last week of term has been wonderful!

The children have loved preparing all of their Christmas crafts for their parents, working on their creativity and fine motor skills to create wonderful cards, crackers, ornaments, wreaths, pine cones, baubles and pipe cleaner candy canes! 🎄

Some of our children have enjoyed creating snowmen from playdough, and we had the opportunity to make our own snow! ❄️

Wishing all of our children and families a fun and festive Christmas break❤️

This week, we all had the golden opportunity to witness the children, as angels, to perform on stage in their Christmas Nativity. They performed in front of all their mums, dads, siblings and grandparents. For the past three weeks, the children have been working so hard on their Christmas Songs, whether this be in the classroom, nursery bathrooms or at home and we are so proud of each and every one of them!

It was so lovely to have parents and grandparents have an opportunity to come into the classroom after the concert to discuss how beautiful it was and have a little peek of some crafts the children have been doing. The treat of mulled wine, chocolates and minced pies were provided to finish off our wonderful concert afternoon.

Christmas Jumper Day, Crafts and Christmas Lunch with our peers and teachers have been enjoyed too!

With the cold winter weather approaching, we have been thinking about all the clothes that keep us warm and working on our practical skills to help us put on our coats, hats, gloves and even scarves! We also used our floor thinking book to discuss winter, including: what to wear, animals, weathers and trees! ❄️🌳📚

We have been exploring some of the new Montessori Materials on the shelves, utilising our fine motor skills, control and hand-eye coordination with great precision! ⭐️🔔

Some beautiful clay ornaments, baubles, fork paintings and paper chains have been made by the children in preparation for our Christmas Crafts and Classroom Decorations🎄

We finished off the week with a Stay and Play with our children and parents. It was lovely to see you all! Thank you all for coming😊

This week we have been delving into our topic of the night sky and learnt some important information about Road Safety in light of Road Safety Awareness Week!

We have reflected on:

⭐️ Stars and phases of the moon
We have put our art and craft skills to work as we cut out and decorated stars. The children also learnt about different phases of the moon. They had the opportunity to paint full moons, half moons and crescent moons too! 🌌🌙

🌎 Our Solar System
The children have enjoyed working together to piece together our solar system puzzle, demonstrating great teamwork, turn taking and understanding during group discussions about all the planets🪐🧩
There has been great interest in our space books too! 📚

🚘 Road Safety Week
We have discussed the importance of road safety and listening to adults! The children worked together to paint a traffic light system, before taking it in turns to “stop” and “go” across the pedestrian and level crossings made on our garden path!

We have started November with a big (rainy) splash! ☔️
With all the wet weather we have had, there have been many conversations about being on the look out for rainbows when the sun comes out, and just as the children were going home for the weekend…we were greeted by this!!
What a beautiful sight to end our week 🌈 🥰

This week we have been harvesting our produce from the allotment! The children loved getting to prepare the different vegetables, making sure to wash them thoroughly before peeling, cutting and then blending them. This wonderful blend along with a few extra herbs made a wonderful soup which the children enjoyed during our stay and play….along with their own version of croutons!

We also had a go at making autumn themed scent bags, these were another way of utilising our wonderful supply of herbs from the allotment.

Thank you so much to all parents who were able to attend our stay and play. It was lovely to see the classroom full of families all getting the chance to catch up as well as make introductions with one another, and taking the opportunity to explore the Montessori materials that their children use everyday! We look forward to hosting another one soon ❤️

We have been harvesting! 🌿

So far we have harvested: pumpkins, courgettes, a handful of Swiss red chard and a few bundles of our herbs!
We have brought these back to our classroom and once our other pumpkins and courgettes are ripe, we will use them to make some delicious soup….perfect for a rainy autumn day! 🥣
With so much harvesting we have been talking about cycles of growth, and one cycle that the children have been very interested in is: conkers! We have foraged and collected many over the last few weeks, and with such a variety to explore the children are able to understand the different growth stages a conker will go through…and how to stay safe by not touching the spikey shells without gloves!

We have been delving into our topic of harvesting and utilising our nursery mini bus as much as we can to get out and about! 🍁

🥬Whilst at the allotment the children have been tending to our produce, as well as making the most of these sunny days and spending meal times there too! They help to set the picnic tables ahead of lunch, and they are always eager to wash up their own dishes once they are finished.
The children also had a great time taking part in story telling through the use of musical instruments 🪇

🐐We have visited a local farm and had the pleasure of meeting their animals and learning about their diets and natural habitats.🐖

🍐We have also been utilising the fantastic apples and pears that were brought back from an orchard visit…these were perfect for printing and practising our safe cutlery use! 🍎

Little Foresters is just one of our spaces where the children to get to partake Forest School, and it just so happens to be right outside our classroom! This area was created by our wonderful Forest School Lead, and in this space the children love to:
🍁 Learn about the importance of respecting and caring for our local and wider environment
🍁 Practice and perfect safe tool and equipment use
🍁 Develop gross motor skills and refine their balance using the stepping logs
🍁 Take a trip into their imaginations on our home-made pallet car
🍁 Explore textures, collect and combine natural resources, and develop communication using our mud kitchen
🍁 Get up close to our resident mini beasts by making bug hotels and learning all about these wonderful creatures
🍁 Create so many different woodland crafts using items they have foraged for themselves
