What a warm week, and a fun one. We found ways to keep cool, paddling and squirting water. We bashed ice blocks at Forest school, in the shade, and relaxed in hammocks. We had snack under the neighbours walnut tree and placed cool wet cloths on our eyes. Thank you to the Denning team who worked even harder, last week in the heat, to keep our children safe and happy. Thank you so much to the parents who loaned us their fans.

Spring gardening begins, climb, yoga poses, more gardening, making humous, 6 little ducks in Spanish class with Sandra, balance, puzzles, matching, always lots of art, ‘ their office work’ as the children call it 🥰 Now two sessions of forest school a week, so see the resting and contemplating by a tree, climbing, stories with teachers and of course hammock fun. We looked for signs of spring and noticed the sheep have lost their fleeces, on our way to Monday Forest School. We are enjoying searching for woodlice, ladybirds and snails. Also making dens, climbing and relaxing in our hammocks, which always ends in singing. As we settle in, familiar water colour painting, looking at books and the mud kitchen is a popular place to be. We welcomed new children and a lovely new forest school assistant. There is no rushing, just time to be in the forest. 🌳🌲🌳☀️

Last month, Toad Patrol volunteer Nicola, visited the children, to tell us about the spring toad, frog and newt migration, that takes place in our local woods and the pond by the river Thames. Thousands of toads are collected each year in buckets by the volunteers and safely taken across a busy road, to the pond. As the movement happens in the night, Nicola showed her high vis jacket and reflective strips on her buckets, so she can keep safe on the road. She talked about the difference, between toads and frogs, their spawn and body shape. The children were shuffling toads with short legs and hopping frogs, who sprung up high with long back legs ! The children had wonderful life cycle resources, in our classroom, to continue their leaning. Swipe to see their work with the frog timeline, and a child using initiative to place a broom to stop the timeline curling up. Independent putting work away. At the end you’ll see a photo of the tadpoles, thriving right now and how the wood is now a carpet of bluebells. The children gave Nicola a card and some chocolates

Huge thanks to Michael, Josh and Jacob for teaching the children, parents and teachers all about their important work. We had a most informative time, enjoyable too. The fire fighters are so good at making the visit relevant for our age group. Special thanks to Jacob Dawson for letting the teachers, wear his amazing gold and bronze rowing medals. Thank you to Michael for coordinating the visit and all three of you , Josh too, made us all feel so welcome. 🚒🧯
