It's been a while since I created some artwork. So I have been doing quite a bit of research first to get some inspiration.

I have always been interested in ley-lines and energy grids, and how the energy seems to be stronger on these cross roads on certain days of the year.
Sacred building have been built on the major cross roads, such as places of worship, pyramids and sacred City's of long ago.

I am creating some preliminary paintings in charcoal and white chalk to start to build up images.
The two picture are of Silbury Hill where I visited on Sunday and a charcoal drawing for the idea of a young priestess who perhaps once lived, starting her training.
I found this lovely vintage photo which was perfect for her.

This is one of my Rembrandt master oil painting studys which I completed a couple of years ago. I had just completed a workshop on illuminated manuscript designs and experimented on creating the gold motif in the corner of the painting.

The painting was created by building up layers of an underpainting and applying flake white. I then hand made the oil paint from traditional pigments to match the original pigments Rembrandt would have used in his time. I continued with many layers of oil colour over a glaze made from a 17th century recipe. I love learning in this way by trying understand how the artist worked.

I've been a little quiet lately, due to coming down with Covid.

It was the first time I have had it, and has taken a while to get back to health.

I'm glad to say, that I am feeling much better and looking ahead for the next course at the end of July!

I hope everyone is well and enjoying the lovely weather. It's been so nice here, been building up with dog walks and managed a small bike ride!

See you soon!

Creating a self portrait is quite lovely using a mirror next to the easel.
Here in the process I create the under painting in brown and white only oil paint only.
When dry. I apply a glaze and paint a fine layer of colour to then dry. This process is repeated many times .
Will post more updates over the next couple of days.
Next classical painting class starts next Friday 10th June.

Lovely sunny start to Tuesday morning class in oil painting techniques. We start off by choosing our image and preparing the canvas.
Next we start painting a sketch onto the canvas, looking and accessing all the time.
We then apply shading and start the process of building up the tonal value.
The first morning wizzes by and before you know it, it’s lunchtime!
I am always on hand to guide you and help when you get stuck!
Looking forward to session two!

Lovely start to the classical oil painting course that started on Tuesday! Lots of inspiration by trying something new. In the first session we pick our subject matter, prepare the canvas and start to paint the picture. We focus on shading, and looking at getting it as accurate as possible. However the main focus is about the technique and enjoying being in the moment! 🙂
