The King Langley Cricket Club has been saddened to learn of the death of Tony Townley. After a short battle with cancer, Tony passed away at home on the 19th of June at the age of 80.

He played for KLCC for many years, primarily as a middle order, left-handed batsman in the first team. He captained the club and was also an integral member of the side that won the Herts Competition League.

The funeral and celebration of the life of Tony Townley will be held on Friday 10th July 2026 at 3.30pm at the following venue:

Hemel Hempstead Crematorium,
Bedmond Road,
Hemel Hempstead,
HP3 8LL

The family also hope memories can be shared following the funeral at Kings Langley Cricket Club, Vicarage Lane, Kings Langley, WD4 9HR.

The dress code is 'as you wish'.

One for the archives...and quite possibly the pub quiz. The day Roy Parsloe, games master at Apsley GS, played in a charity football match against a Showbiz XI that included Sean Connery. One surprise is that Roy was playing for the RAF XI but perhaps because the game was played at the Camelot RFC ground ( for whom he did play...at rugby), he was, ahem, flown in for the RAF side. The other surprise is that Sean Connery was playing at No. 6 and not No. 007. Well, maybe it was a case of You Only Play Once or Never Say Never Again. And presumably the game was played with a Thunderball...

The sun shone yesterday on our "informal" gathering at The Paper Mill and there were enough ex pupils to keep the conversation and the w**e (thank you Ron Moss) flowing until early evening.
Some stayed throughout and some came and went and it was great to meet ex pupils who we possibly didn't meet during our time at the school, but we all had that common base of establishment to look back on, with a mixture of memories.
Thank you to everybody who showed interest on Facebook and actually turned up from a variety of distances. Geoff Gaunt left to get a train back to Wrexham. Vic Brown had arrived a day earlier for an overnight stop and a visit to old haunts. Averil Parkinson arrived from Cambridge and had to return late afternoon for mid-summer reverence of the River Cam. Brian Boston brought Mike Kitchener and his wife Sue, and both Kevin and Graham Pilling enjoyed an afternoon on the pub's patio.
Susan Farthing, Lynne Pemberton, Avril Lewis, Bob Garland and others all spent time catching up. Will it happen again?

These were photos from a very “formal” school reunion held at the school in - I can’t remember when. 30 years ago? I’m sure someone will know. There’s certainly a lot of changed hair colours or abundance between then and now and it’s a shame our young minds have to struggle these days with ageing bodies.
Looking forward to seeing all ex AGS pupils who can manage to keep body and soul together, next week at The Paper Mill in Apsley from midday-ish. Typically mid-summer’s day looks like we might see a shower or two but no reason for us to get wet!
