This week is National Mental Health awareness week and this year’s theme for Mental Health Awareness Week is ‘loneliness’. Here is some information and resources for you to use and share.

Mental health services and support

One in four people across the country will experience a mental health problem in any given year. Mental health problems and illnesses include anxiety, depression, addiction, personality disorders and psychosis.

Experiencing a mental health problem can be upsetting and very frightening. It is important to know you are not alone and that there are a wide range of services and support available to you. These include online support and information services, helplines, talking therapies, counselling and crisis mental health support, as well as specialist mental health help.

There are a number of services that you can access or self-refer to (self-refer means you do not need to have been referred by your GP or medical professional to use the service).

Together with SafeLives the TUC is offering this new one-day training course for union reps to raise awareness of domestic abuse as a workplace issue. Sessions will be interactive and will include opportunities for discussion and group activities.

When is the course?
The pilot course will take place online on Wednesday 13th April 2022. Please note the deadline for expressions of interest is 5.00 pm Thursday 31st March 2022.

What will the course help me do?
The course will increase awareness and understanding of domestic abuse and enable reps to feel confident in talking about domestic abuse and help them to signpost colleagues to specialist support. It will consider survivor experiences in a range of workplaces, including home working, and will explore how this may affect their safety.

What will I be expected to do for the course?
As this is a new pilot course, we’re asking participants to:

· Be available for the full day’s training.
· Evaluate the training by taking part in follow up surveys and feedback sessions.

Please note that once the pilot is complete, we will run further sessions throughout 2022. If you are not selected for our April course, we will add your name to our waiting list for future sessions.
