You may know the face, but do you know the story behind it?

Meet David, founder of Brilliant and someone who has spent much of his life working in and around professional theatre. David’s industry journey began at just 15. Since then, he has worked professionally with Grassroots Theatre Company, managed theatre tours across Wales and the South East, toured with OMTC Pantomimes and written, directed and co-directed productions and workshops.

After training as an actor at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, David went on to work across stage and screen and remains an active member of the theatre community today. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and most recently produced a professional production of The Last Five Years at the Minack Theatre.

But one of his greatest passions has always been creating opportunities for the next generation. That’s at the heart of Brilliant: giving young performers access to serious training, high-quality productions and experiences that show them what working in theatre can really look like.

And David is still right there in the rehearsal room making it happen 💜

And just like that, another summer of Brilliant is behind us 🎭

Two intensives, two very different experiences, bo many moments we won’t forget 💜

From working with West End performers during our Musical Theatre Intensive to the focused rehearsal process of bringing Treasure Island to the stage during Acting Week, our students spent their summer doing what they love: learning, creating, rehearsing and performing.

They took direction, tried new things, worked as an ensemble, developed their technique, pushed themselves beyond what they thought they could do! And, most importantly, they got to put everything they were learning into practice.

Creating an original musical isn’t something many young performers get the chance to experience. At Brilliant Theatre Academy, our students don’t just perform stories. Sometimes, they help create them 🙌

This summer, we’re giving young performers the chance to train, rehearse and perform in a real theatre environment.

At Brilliant Theatre Academy, we’re running two exciting intensive projects designed for young performers who are ready to take their training to the next level.

🎭 First, our West End Musical Theatre Intensive runs from 27th July to 1st August for ages 7 to 21. Students will take part in workshops, technique classes and audition-level preparation inspired by shows including Beetlejuice, Hadestown, Heathers and more. Throughout the week, students will work with professional performers currently working in the West End, including Sedona Sky from Heathers, Jordan Crouch from The Great Gatsby, Lucinda Buckley from Hadestown and Claire-Marie Hall from Operation Mincemeat.

🎭 Then, from 3rd to 8th August, we’ll be running our Advanced Acting Intensive for ages 11 to 21, where students will create a full production of Treasure Island with a modern twist in just five days. Across both weeks, students will train in a professional theatre environment, work closely with experienced creatives and build towards a live showcase performance at the end of the intensive. These weeks are about serious training, self-belief, creativity, and giving young performers the chance to grow alongside like-minded people who share their ambition.
