Oak and Acorn class had a super fun afternoon on Thursday when the fire engine came to visit. They have been learning about the special people in our community who help us like the emergency services. The children were able to sit in the fire engine. Explore some of the resources and spray the hose.

On Wednesday morning Ash Class had a brilliant time on our trip to Duncombe Park to learn about the River Rye. We sampled the life in the riverbed to check the health of the river system and tested the effectiveness of various materials at flood prevention. Our guides were incredibly knowledgeable, and the children have come away with lots of interesting facts. What a great start to our rivers topic!

On our visit to Duncombe Park, we studied how the River Rye has changed over time and how environmental factors affect its health. We learned about protecting rivers, went river dipping to identify different creatures, and carried out an experiment to explore how erosion and flooding can be reduced using human methods. It was a great afternoon!

On Wednesday Silver Birch class thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Duncombe Park for this year's 'Countryside Day' . They participated in lots of fabulous outdoor learning activities including pretending to milk cows, making small clay pots, visiting the 'Secret Garden' and learning about how we should look after the countryside. Although it rained a lot the children demonstrated excellent resilience and completed the walk there and back with smiles on their faces. It was a great day out! 🙂

Ash Class had a fantastic day at Eden Camp. The weather wasn't on board but the children's interest and enthusiasm in the history more than made up for it. The Blitz Experience hut was the highlight as it brought to life the scenes that the children had only seen in black and white pictures. The children's attitude and conduct throughout the day was exemplary, representing Helmsley School to the highest standard. Well done everyone.

We have had a wonderful and active first week back in Pre-School, making the most of the sunshine by taking our learning outdoors. We have enjoyed the story The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle creating our own life cycles of caterpillars and frogs. It has also been lovely to welcome three new starters to Pre-School, while reconnecting with our friends after the Easter break.

Oak and Silver Birch had a fantastic time at Danby Lodge on Wednesday. They learnt lots of information about maps including how to create a key, use a grid and how to use a compass. We had great fun completing a treasure hunt around the centre which led us to a treasure chest!
