Nursery Practitioner Room Lead
Stepping Stones Nursery is committed to providing the best start in life for every child. Our staff are our biggest asset in ensuring we deliver high-quality childcare and exciting opportunities for learning that give every child a head start. We can’t do this without you, so we’re looking for an enthusiastic, passionate, dedicated, reliable, and fun-loving person who shares our values to join our existing team of experienced childcare practitioners at Stepping Stones.

We are looking for a fully qualified room lead practitioner to join our team, working around 35 hours Monday to Friday, all year round (we are closed as a nursery for 2 weeks at Christmas)

Stepping Stones Nursery has been established for over 20 years and has been under new ownership since 2019. We have 4 large bright and welcoming rooms for children, two for ELC children and two for 2-3-year-olds. We also always have a large front garden to enable all age groups to access the garden so an outdoor loving person who does not mind being out in all weather is a must!.

Stepping Stones Nursery is ideally situated within proximity to Helensburgh train station (approx 20-minute walk) and on a regular bus route from Helensburgh centre.

Key responsibilities:

1. To provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social, and intellectual care for children place in the setting.

2. To give support to their staff within the setting.

3. To work as part of a team in order to provide an enabling environment in which all individual children can play, develop and learn.

4. To build and maintain strong partnerships working with parents to enable children’s needs to be met.

Main duties and responsibilities

1. To work flexibly as part of a team, plan jointly with other members of the team.

2. Be the key person for a group of children. Complete assessments and reports on children in own group and contribute to the assessment of others.

3. Monitor Staff in rooms tracking of children.

4. Contribute to policy formulation and evaluating practice to adhere to Stepping Stones policies and procedures at all times.

5. Mentor student EYP’s, MA’s and work experience students.

6. Support the development of other staff working by planning together and role modelling.
Maintain strong and positive relationships with members of your team.

7. To be responsible for the welfare of the children in your designated room organising systems to ensure consistent high-quality care.

8. To work in partnership with all parents/carers, building and maintaining relationships

9. Take a lead role in the managing and administration of Learning Journals.

10. When Senior Management are absent it is recognised that the Lead Early Years
Practitioner(s) will be responsible for overseeing the nursery and any managerial duties
thatmay occur.

11. Be responsible for the supervision of other workers, such as support workers

12. Be responsible for one of the rooms or areas of the service in which you work.

13. Be responsible for opening and/or closing up the service on a daily basis. Lock up and put
the alarm on at the end of the day, ensuring all lights are off and the building is secure.

14. Work in partnership with other professionals where there are concerns regarding the
welfare of a child in your care.

15. Ability to communicate clearly, effectively and with consideration for others. This will
include non-verbal, verbal, and written forms of communication.

16. To undertake any other aspects of nursery work according to need. To be flexible within
working practice of the nursery and be prepared to help if needed, including overtime,
undertaking domestic, kitchen, cleaning jobs.

17. Have an excellent understanding and a working knowledge of all aspects of Health and
safety.

18. Keep abreast of current theory and practice by undertaking continuing professional
development.

19. Participate in nursery staff meetings, taking a lead role in these if required.

20. Contribute to the development and implementation of the nursery improvement plan.

21. Ensure room is kept clean and tidy and materials/resources tidied at the end of the day.

22. Liaise with all nursery staff to share information about individual children.

You Need

You will have the passion and enthusiasm to complement our existing team of experienced child care practitioners.
You will have knowledge of the Curriculum for Excellence as well as previous experience of working with children under 5.
You MUST be educated to HNC level in Early Education and Childcare or hold SNNB/HNC/SVQ3 qualifications in Childcare/Education or equivalent and be able ot evidence additional learning and knolwedge of current practice and legislation in relation to Early Learning and Childcare.Y
You will also be required to register within 6 months of your start date with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
All positions are subject to satisfactory PVG Check. This post is considered Regulated Work with Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. It is an offence, therefore, to apply if you are barred from working with children.
