Lomond School

Lomond School Independent day and boarding situated in the coastal town of Helensburgh, on the edge of Loch Lomond.

Lomond has an inclusive ethos that aims high in all aspects, encouraging pupils of all abilities to achieve to the best of their ability. All aspects of development are accorded importance, be they academic, musical, dramatic, sporting or in wider outdoor activities. Lomond has a wide awareness of the importance of international links, maintaining a diverse community with active school partnership

s abroad in South Africa, Germany and China. Good manners, a hard working approach to life and a strong community feel are all values that are closely held at Lomond. We are an all through school with pupils from 3 to 18 years of age and the school adopts a close awareness of the individual and his or her strengths. The wider family plays a strong part in school life and we are very keen on the role parents can play in the school. Both boarding and day pupils have a close integration and Lomond enjoys its position as the only boarding school on the West Coast of Scotland. Our pupils go on to add great value in their time at school and gain the places of their choice at university. We welcome visits to the school and are always happy to offer a sample of school life to new pupils.

Our 12 Upper Sixth Form Gold Duke of Edinburgh set out on their qualifying expedition. First stop Dores on Loch Ness. 4 days of paddling await along the Great Glen before their destination in Fort William.

19 of our Drama department students from S3 to IB lower 6th explored the excitement, chaos and diversity of the largest arts festival in the world!

Highlights included chatting to street performers on the Royal Mile about comedy, Edgar Allen Poe the cast of Beth ( not Macbeth!) .

We attended a performance of Alone: an immersive theatre experience about two women lost in space that was performed in a shipping container. We were moved to tears!

Lots of laughs and even plans to return next year performing their own show!

At the end of our first week back, Mrs Chisholm hosted the first assembly of the 2026/27 school year. We welcomed our new and returning pupils to Lomond School.

With a packed assembly hall, we celebrated our academic award winners and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award recipients, as well as reflecting on our excellent National 5 and IB results.

Mrs Chisholm reminded us that while exam results are something to be proud of, they don’t define who we are. There is much more to each pupil than the grades on a piece of paper.

The assembly finished with a teaser from Head of Music, Mr Fleming, who announced that our T1–S2 show will take place in February. But there was one small catch… he wasn’t telling us what the show is!

Instead, pupils were shown a teaser trailer, with the big reveal coming at our next assembly.
