The last week of the holidays we got a right treat with getting to go see the tour de britain pass through Hedon. We headed to Hedon Methodist Church first to decorate our scooters and the girls won 1st and 2nd place. Chimp E already had ultra cool lights on his new scooter so felt like it was best not to decorate. We then headed to the streets with cow bells and noise makers and our flags to wave and shake for the event. Chimp E and A really got invested and we ended up watching the rest on the alexa when we got back to see who won.

​We turned the setting into a peaceful pamper haven last week if the holidays for the ultimate child-led relaxation session!

​Our little guests got stuck straight into every part of the experience:
🥣 Making custom face masks—mashing oats, ripe bananas, and sweet strawberries together for a 100% natural, sensory feast for the faces, and mouths for the younger ones 😂
🪵 Back massages & foot spas—soaking toes in warm bubbly water and taking turns enjoying gentle back massages to unwind
💅 Nail painting—finishing off with bright, colourful nails to complete the full spa transformation!
​Behind all the cucumber slices and cozy giggles, a day like this is brilliant for:
✨ Self-care & body awareness—learning how to slow down, listen to our bodies, and enjoy calming rhythms
✨ Fine motor control & coordination—mashing ingredients, pouring water, and carefully painting nails
✨ Sensory exploration & social skills—exploring smells and textures while taking turns caring for one another
​Safe to say everyone floated out the door completely chilled out and smelling delicious! 🍓🍌

Thursdays in the holidays we're renamed sensory extreme level exploring days

❄️ Messy play taken to a whole new level all in the name of summer memories! 🧼

​We brought out the shaving foam, and it wasn’t long before full-body sensory exploration took over! Hands, arms, legs—everyone got involved, including turning one of our brave "guinea pigs" into a full-on walking, talking snowman! ☃️

​The absolute highlight? Clapping foam-covered hands as hard as possible and watching giant white suds fly right across the garden! The giggles were non-stop as we tested out velocity, air resistance, and total garden coverage. 💨✨

​We also experimented with filling balloons with foam to make super-satisfying, squishy stress balls... well, satisfying right up until the ultimate tension test when they popped into a glorious cloud of foam! 🎈💥
​It was loud, completely messy, and 100% pure joy. Beneath all the foam flying through the air, they were busy exploring:
✨ Heavy sensory input & tactile processing
✨ Cause and effect (clap hard = foam goes far!)
✨ Fine motor precision & hand strength while squishing and squeezing

And the aftermath of the garden at the end of the day was real. But a quick hose-down in the garden and everything was back to been clean. Days like this are what childhood is all about! Already can't wait for next summer's exploring

Rainbow hair era🌈

The summer chimp A & M were int heir long hair touching feet rainbow era and it isn't going far with Chimp A desperate to hsve their long courful hair back. Sadly Adele/ mummy is hair rubbish and just can't do a braid or plaits. But thanks to the bigger chimps J & I the8r wishes come true with them able to do their hair with such care and patience as well as doing mine often explaining step by step how to do them so i will eventually be able to do the girls hair for school

This is a throw back to last month and definitely one for the older ones

Who needs plates anyway?! 🍝

​If you’ve seen the viral trend where people pour an entire batch of spaghetti or a giant tray of food straight onto the table for everyone to dive into, you’ll know it’s taking social media by storm right now.

Now iv seen it several times and thought just no way. I literally spend my days teaching children to eat correctly without throwing food of their plates

Then I saw Katie Hugill Childminding Carlisle - Ofsted rated GOOD post and the sheer joy in the children's face and showed it to the older chimps who was straight on wanting to do it.

And so glad we gave it a try as it was a huge hit they loved it and there’s actually so much joy in breaking the rules around mealtimes once in a while:

​Takes the pressure off: Family-style, communal eating takes away the stress of "finish what’s on your plate." Children can explore at their own pace.

​Pure sensory exploration: Feeling textures, choosing portions, and sharing from one central spot builds massive confidence and social skills.

​It’s just plain fun: Sometimes, shaking up the routine and being a little bit silly is the best way to get a reluctant eater curious about new foods.

Oh and the minimal washing up was a huge hit too so we did the same thing when they were back from their summer trips Away

Who's the childminder who didn't think she already had enough on with a never ending to do List that they thought hey let's add another qualification to the pile of things to do?

That would be me 🙋🙋🙋 it's a course iv wanted to do for a while now and very excited to be finally starting but starting at 6pm for 3 hours before the mindees have even left is definitely not for the faint hearted 😂😂 reminder for next month must make a cuppa for it too
