So, what does “alternative provision” actually mean? 🤔
It’s something we’ve been asked about a lot since becoming an Alternative Provision provider earlier this term, so we thought we’d explain it in simple terms.
Alternative Provision (AP) is education for children and young people who, for whatever reason, aren’t able to access mainstream school in the usual way 🏫
That might be because school has become overwhelming, a child is struggling to attend due to anxiety for instrance, they need a different learning environment, or they need a more personalised approach to their education.
And importantly, AP doesn’t mean a child has “failed” at school. Quite the opposite.
Sometimes children just need education to look a little different. More flexibility, a quieter environment, one-to-one support, lessons that move at their pace, and adults who take the time to understand what’s behind the difficulties.
At RTQ, we’re now able to provide Alternative Provision alongside our usual private tuition, supporting children with their education and helping them build confidence, skills and a positive relationship with learning.
