I'm sure you have all heard by now that HOSC will open its doors one last time this coming Monday! We have linked up with Colden Early Years Nursery and Childrens Club to provide after school care Mon-Fri- Wednesdays are already full but there is availability on the other days! And to ease that transition, I will be starting as the Early Years Manager there after half term so there will be a friendly and familiar face to greet our children off the bus!

We would all like to say a big thank you to everyone who has continued to support us over the past year or so as we tried a variety of ways and means to keep HOSC going! Getting to spend time with your children has been such a joy and we all have such wonderful memories to take with us! Thank you to those of us who have brought us cards and gifts ✨

Also a huge thank you to Robb, the committee chair who has stepped in on so many occasions to cover shifts as well as the rest of the committee! Thank you to Sarah, Kirsty, Emma, Jocasta, Fae and Sydney!

If you'd like to keep up with what our amazing team have going on follow Messy Minis: Process Art Studio and The Respectful Educator

Hope to see you all soon in one way or another!

Tommorrow is my (Jocasta) last session working with HOSC.

I just wanted to say that I have loved getting to know all of the children.
I will miss the baking, painting, crafting and my very unfit version of football playing that we have done together.

See you all at the school gates again soon πŸ‘‹

I (Jocasta) brought in some colour diffusing paper from my art studio for families and children Messy Minis: Process Art Studio

The children tonight really enjoyed the process of experimenting with this paper to create colourful patterns.

Some children then made these and other paper into butterflies.

If you want any more info on any holiday classes, after school classes or family painting sessions at my studio feel free to contact.

Winter Solstice

β€œThe winter solstice time is no longer celebrated as it once was, with the understanding that this is a period of descent and rest, of going within our homes, within ourselves and taking in all that we have been through, all that has passed in this full year which is coming to a close...
like nature and the animal kingdom around us, this time of hibernation is so necessary for our tired limbs, our burdened minds.

Our modern culture teaches avoidance at a max at this time; alcohol, lights, shopping, overworking, over spending, comfort food and consumerism.
And yet the natural tug to go inwards as nearly all creatures are doing is strong and the weather so bitter that people are left feeling that winter is hard, because for those of us without burning fires and big festive families, it can be lonely and isolating. Whereas in actual fact winter is kind, she points us in her quiet soft way towards our inner self, towards this annual time of peace and reflection, embracing the darkness and forgiving, accepting and loving embracing goodbye the past year.

"Winter takes away the distractions, the buzz, and presents us with the perfect time to rest and withdraw into a womb like love, bringing fire & light to our hearth".
. and then, just around the corner the new year will begin again, and like a seed planted deep in the earth, we will all rise with renewed energy once again to dance in the sunlight

Life is a gift ❀ a Happy winter to you all...”

How beautiful are these bird feeders we made this week 🐦

We thought we would be stuck when we forgot oranges but one of the children announced 'we should use the apples on the school field!' So we did!

Tonight smelt like my childhood christmas!

I (Jocasta) made some peppermint creams with the children (do you remember them from your childhood?).
Kids also decorated paper bags to give them as gifts (the ones they didn't eat).
They also made a sweet shop with them which was lots of fun.

After dinner Sydney made the most delicious hot chocolate for everyone and we had a little disco.

Merry Christmas everyone and a happy New Year πŸŽ„πŸŽ‰

The final week of the term before the Christmas holidays, everything has a very festive theme this week πŸŽ„

Children made cards to give to friends, decorated paper baubles and also made some craft Christmas characters that raced on cars (didn't get a picture of these, they were far too fast and fun)

More festive fun to come πŸŽ…

Last night the children made some yummy mince pies and printed Christmas cards using foam board.

Each child approached the activities in their own way.

At HOSC we use a child led approach, each child chooses what they want to do whilst there. We provide different activities throughout the week and we listen to what the children are interested by. Baking on a Thursday appears to be a winner!
