Warriors of the Wilderness Re-enactment Society A group for hobby re-enactors interested in the Jacobite Risings particularly that of 1745/6

Based in Northumberland we are a recently formed and friendly society for hobby re-enactors of the mid-18th century with a particular emphasis on the Jacobite Rising of 1745/46. Recruits, new and experienced, are welcome in various roles including fighting men, civilians, artisans and camp followers. Aiming for historically accurate portrayals we will offer the public both entertainment and educa

tion at sites in the north of England and Scottish borders while commemorating people and events of Jacobite significance in the region.

"BLOOD UPON THE ROSE"

On this day 280 years ago 8 Englishmen and 1 Welshman, officers in the Jacobite Manchester Regiment, suffered on Kennington Common, Surrey for bearing arms in support of their rightful king, James Stuart.

Not forgotten.

Cumbria's museum of military life in Carlisle Castle.

Last weekend, for the third consecutive year, the regiment participated in the museum's military festival.

The burden of history lay heavily on the shoulders of the C/O and adjutant as they walked in the footsteps of the forlorn 400-strong Jacobite garrison of 280 years ago.

Whilst the C/O was kept busy trying to entice both young and old to bear arms for King James, the adjutant prowled the battlements increasingly disturbed by the progress of the government battery to the west and watching for reinforcements from the north as Prince Charles had promised.

God save King James!

A DISTRACTION FOR THE WINTER

#6 BRITANNIA'S SUPPLIES

A couple of winters ago (2023/24) I started using commercially available OO gauge model railway rolling stock to post allegorical depictions of the Royal House of Stuart and The '45.

Further purchases since then allow me to offer, in the same vein, further (largely fictitious) imagery. Hopefully they will raise a smile in this never ending wet and grey winter season!

"DISMAL DERBY"

Pushing south from Ashbourne last month a cadre of the regiment ended up in a Derby; that most unhappy place for Jacobites.
The adjutant posed in the rain before the Bonnie Prince Charlie stature whilst the CO prepared for the prince's crucial council of war surrounded by the very oak panels that framed the original council held in Exeter House 280 years ago.

The outcome? Suffice to say we are back in Northumberland not in London😡

HAPPY CHRISTMASNick and Jenny wish all our followers, now exceeding 1000, a peaceful and happy Christmas 2025.
