We specialise in Pet African Pygmy Hedgehogs and their Wild UK cousins. Rose garden Hedgehogs was established in 2012 by a small group of friends who met through their shared love of wild Hedgehogs and interest in Pet African pygmy Hedgehogs. Having many years of experience in African pygmy Hedgehog ownership, All of Rose Garden's Pygmy Hedgehogs herd come from reputable lines and some lines have

rosette winning relatives! All our lines are registered with the United Kingdom's, African pygmy Hedgehog club and we follow the ethical standards as set out by the club! We attend APH club events and shows every year and show our Hedgehogs in hopes of winning awards! We occasionally breed litters to continue our personal pedigree's and what hoglets are not kept or traded between other showers/fanciers, lines or previous owners, we do infrequently sell a small number of these surplus hoglets to new hobbists at sporadic times of the year. All of these hoglets will be fully registered and tracked by the UK'S African pygmy Hedgehog club. Rose Garden Hedgehogs often attend charity, school, care home and educational events to raise awareness for the plight of the UK's wild Hedgehog population through their tame cousins. Our aim is to get people up and personal with Hedgehogs to show them what wonderful animals they are! And to encourage people to see wild hogs in the same light. If you would like us at an event please DM us! Rose garden Hedgehogs work closely with our local wildlife/wild Hedgehog rescue to provide help over wintering, hand rearing or general care of wild Hedgehogs in need. We believe it is our duty of care to not only help Wild UK Hedgehogs but to provide rescue, retirement and rehoming to in-need, homeless or elderly Pet Pygmy hedgehogs. Most of our herd are made up of Retired ex-breeding females, elderly Hedgehogs, disabled, elderly or otherwise in need pet Hedgehogs. If you or someone you know needs help finding a home for an in-need Pygmy hedgehog, please don't hesitate to DM us! Rose garden Hedgehogs support educated exotic ownership and will not let any Hedgehogs go to homes where research hasn't been undertook first as these animals are specialists! We aim to spread correct information regarding their husbandry and are always available online to answer any questions or concerns you may have regarding your pet Hedgehog or a wild Hedgehog in need! All pet pygmy Hedgehogs that are rescued or surrendered to us will be either permanently rehomed with one of our trusted, experienced carers or will remain at Rose Garden Hedgehogs and be looked after for the remainder of their days. Wild UK Hedgehogs rescued will be checked over by our local veterinary practice, our wild life mentor and then appropriate steps taken to ensure the hedgehog is treated and eventually returned to the wild when ready

We work closely with local wild animal rescue's, RSPCA and our local Veterinary practice! All treatment and care of our rescue animals is provided out of pocket by us and generous donations from the general public, friends and family. οΏ½οΏ½

Moblin passed away from cancer and old age on Saturday night, surrounded by her fellow hedgehogs, Isaac and me.

She was loved until her very last second. It's important for us to be there when they pass away, just as much as when they're brought into this world. We were there from the second she was born until the second she left.

Moblin was a bombproof hedgehog! She adored people, children and being handled, and we could always count on her to "work" and "perform" whenever we did our hedgehog talks with adults or children.
With the children she was especially gentle and patient, even allowing them to pet her face and tummy. She rarely huffed or startled, never balled up and, for all our joking, she never acted anything other than completely composed and professional. πŸ˜‰

There will never be another Moblin. πŸ’”

She was genuinely the last in a long line, tracing all the way back to my first hedgehog, Lerix, whom she took after in nearly every way. Now we will start again with her grandchildren from her son, Quinton, and her great-nieces from Strudel (hopefully!).

We can only hope that this soon-to-be-born generation will do her proud.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out and who has loved Moblin alongside us over these years. We hope that whenever you see a hedgehog, wild or pygmy, you think of her and of what you learnt during one of our talks or by following the page.

This isn't goodbye β€” this is just "see you later"! We're sure she'll come back to haunt us. 🀣❀️

Rest in peace, Moblin Boblin Food. You will forever be loved.

We've recently moved home and unfortunately, our new landlord has declined our request to reopen our rescue in the backyard of the property.

This means that the wild hedgehog rescue side of things will have to close unless our circumstances change πŸ˜”.

We will continue to assist with the rescue and rehoming of pet Pygmy hedgehogs where we're able!

This doesn't effect our permanent wildie resident Peaches πŸ‘.

Thank you everyone for your help, donations and support over the years! It's not the outcome we wanted but we don't have any other options. ❀️

This is why we go into schools to try and teach children to respect animals - especially hedgehogs πŸ˜žπŸ’” If anyone saw anything, please report it!!! Beth is a good friend of ours and the work she does is honestly vital!

The hedgehog was injured after being "kicked around like a football" and later died, an animal charity says.

It's time that animal cruelty warranted jail time. If those responsible are under legal age then their parents should be held accountable, fined etc and the children should have to undergo MANDATORY psychiatric evaluation. If you can hurt an animal, it's only one step up from hurting a person. Hedgehogs already have such a tough time without humans deliberately hurting them! Please share Castleford Hedgehog rescue - Charity No 1207102 post to see if we can identify those responsible! And please donate to the rescue as they're amazing people!

Say it with me again folks:

WHS is a SLOW and PROGRESSIVE condition present from birth and the hedgehogs rarely reach 3 years old and usually pass away young!
WHS CANNOT be confirmed by your vet UNTIL the animal has passed away and a necropsy is performed. πŸ‘

MANY conditions cause loss of mobility!
Ear infections, breaks, tumours, nerve issues, head trauma, behavioural, MBD and MORE!

I've been doing this for ten years now and it was known back when I started keeping hedgehogs and shouldn't still be being perpetuated now!!!

If your vet says your hedgehog has WHS then get a different vet! Because no one can diagnose it while the hedgehog is alive.

Cases in the UK are *extremely* small because we Keep such a good track of pedigrees etc.

Thank you for coming to my hogtalk.
