Cardiothoracic ST1 application talk!

Oxford Cardiothoracic Surgery Society (OxCATSS) is delighted to host Dr Fadi Al-Zubaidi, a nationally appointed UK cardiothoracic surgical resident commencing at Oxford from August 2024. Dr Al-Zubaidi spent a year within the cardiothoracic department at Royal Papworth hospital before securing a competitive post in medical education at the University of Cambridge. In addition, he is currently undertaking a Masters’ degree examining outcomes in mitral valve surgery patients within the UK.

He is extremely well-placed to give advice on applying for surgical training. The talk will feature advice on portfolio building, as well as how to go about securing a training post, so please come along if you are unsure about any stage of the cardiothoracic application process!

We are delighted to announce that Oxford Cardiothoracic Surgery Society in conjunction with the Hugh Cairn’s Surgical Society, will be hosting this year’s SCTS Student Engagement Day! This promises to be a fantastic event held within the grounds of Trinity College, with amazing talks from surgeons in the field and lots of great workshops and skills sessions!

Tickets are priced at £22 for medical students and £28 for foundation doctors, with lunch provided. We expect this event to sell out so grab your tickets as soon as you can.

Many thanks to everyone that attended and special thanks to Dr Kluin for her talk yesterday. It was fascinating to hear the interdisciplinary nature of her work and the scope that a career in cardiothoracic surgery can offer. We all wish her and her team the very best in their BHF funding bid.
