Year 5 children have been working hard this half-term. In science, the Badgers have been learning all about different forces. They made their own parachutes in order to conduct a ‘fair test’, seeing how variable weights affected the time taken to drop. They then recorded their work carefully in their books. They also had a great afternoon at Christ’s Hospital School recently, enjoying both the spectacle of the marching band accompanying the students as they paraded into lunch and a selection of Year 9 drama performances in the theatre. What great learning experiences in Badgers class!

🏏 Selected children from Y5&6 had a fun at this afternoon's Cricket Festival held at Ansty Cricket Club, along with pupils from other local schools. They enthusiastically completed 4 activity stations led by coaches from Sussex Cricket - several excitedly recognised one coach, Ollie, who visited us last May to deliver a whole school cricket session, which was lovely. They focused on throwing, catching, bowling, batting, fielding and team work skills. The session finished with a friendly cricket-based game against Northlands Wood where both teams put their developing skills into action. Plenty of energy, lots of laughter and we have some emerging cricket talent at Handcross Mid Sussex Active

This week Year 3 and 4 enjoyed a fantastic day out at Butser Farm. The children spent the day in a Stone Age to Iron Age village and saw how they would have lived. They partook in activities including cordage making, chalk carving, and wattle making.  They even had the chance to become archaeologists and to dig up their own artefacts. The children represented the school amazingly and all adults they worked with commented on their polite and inquisitive nature. Well done Caterpillars and Roe Deer for representing the school so well.

Rose says “My favourite part was digging for artefacts in the sand and carving the chalk”
Sophia: “My favourite part of Butser Farm was painting on the chalk with leaves and using the charcoal.”

Our new Chair and Vice-Chairs of our School Council were introduced to the school this week. Their first decision was to link Year 6 with our new Reception children so they always have a buddy on the playground. The Year 6 children gave out welcome certificates in assembly and are looking forward to reading with their reception buddies!

Last Wednesday, selected children from Caterpillars (Y3) took part in the KS2 Football Festival held at St Paul's College, alongside pupils from other local primary schools. They practised and developed their footwork, dribbling, shooting and team work skills across a variety of fun, but challenging activity stations. Well done Caterpillars for representing yourselves and Handcross Primary brilliantly ... such a great start to our sports events calendar for '26/27.

Handcross Primary School had a wonderful visit to Nymans Gardens on Wednesday. The children were looking at seasonal changes across the gardens and collected fallen nature. They then took these to the lawns and created some artwork inspired by Andy Goldsworthy. It was a lovely day and particularly nice when the sun came out in the afternoon for Years R to 3!
