WHY DO WE SING NURSERY RHYMES?
Because they’re fun? Absolutely!
But did you know nursery rhymes are so much more than just a bit of fun?
Nursery rhymes are a fantastic way to support children’s development and help them:
Develop their speech – repeating sounds, words and phrases helps children practise their communication skills.
Build language skills – rhymes introduce children to new words and help expand their vocabulary.
Understand how language works – the rhythm and repetition help children begin to recognise where words start and finish within sentences.
Develop fine and gross motor skills – adding actions, clapping, stamping and moving along to rhymes encourages children to use and develop their bodies.
Build memory and listening skills – the repetition of familiar rhymes helps children remember words, sequences and sounds.
They are brilliant for babies too! Singing, repetition and actions help babies engage with sounds and language from an early age.
So, nursery rhymes are VERY important here at Little Stars! ⭐
That’s why, as a whole nursery and pre-school, we’re going to be sharing a 'Rhyme of the week' every single week… until we run out!
