Because the test isn't asking whether your English is good. It's asking whether you can do one particular task, in one particular way, in a fixed amount of time, against fixed marking criteria. I see strong, fluent professionals miss their score because they copied every case note into the letter, sounded too casual (or too stiff), drifted off the Speaking question, or missed a "not" in Listening.
A retake costs more than the exam fee. It costs weeks, and sometimes a job start date, a registration or a visa timeline.
My advice is simple: sit a timed practice test, have it marked against the real criteria, fix the two or three habits costing you marks, and then book.
