Back in May, the children from The Railway Children, Menston joined Menston In Bloom to plant seeds along the walkway at Menston Station. It was a wonderful chance for them to take part in real community gardening and see how small actions can make a big difference.

Now those seeds have flourished, the children have been back to explore the walkway — noticing all the beautiful flowers, talking about the colours, the shapes, and the different styles of blooms. Their excitement in seeing how their planting has grown has been a lovely reminder of how meaningful hands‑on learning can be.

A simple seed‑planting moment has become a vibrant display the whole community can enjoy. 🌺🌼🌸

At The Railway Children we love spending time visiting our friends at The Beeches at Abbeyfield The Dales. We share stories, singing, craft activities and pumpkin carving. These visits are not just heartwarming they are genuinely powerful.

Intergenerational experiences help children grow in confidence, empathy and communication, while the residents enjoy companionship, purpose and the joy of seeing little personalities light up the room. It is a connection that benefits everyone.

As part of our staff induction, we ask our team to watch Chanel 4's old people's home for 4 year olds - a brilliant reminder of just how transformative these relationships can be. Seeing it in action at The Beeches makes it even more special. 💛

Last week the children joined in with the Wimbledon fever, bringing all the excitement of the tournament into their play. 🎾

They spent time playing tennis, practising rallies and balancing balls with brilliant concentration and lots of giggles.

To top it all off, they enjoyed strawberries on the hill, making the perfect nod to a classic Wimbledon tradition. 🍓

The children had lots of fun last week supporting the World Cup and bringing the excitement onto our own pitches. ⚽️

The children played football, cheering each other on and showing brilliant teamwork.

Half time meant one thing: juicy oranges before heading back onto the pitch 🍊

The games ended in a penalty shootout with lots of clapping, cheering and big smiles. 😃

🎉Celebrating 70 years of Abbeyfield! 🎉

This week some of our toddlers and preschool children took a special trip to The Beeches at Abbeyfield The Dales to help create decorations for Abbeyfield’s incredible 70th anniversary.

The room was full of smiles, colour and conversation as the children crafted together.
