Hand forged blacksmithed toasting fork making experience: available to book now! 🌹🔨
£45 per person, Nr Bonchester Bridge 📍

How cool is this! Join Darren, specialist heritage blacksmith for a very special heritage smithing experience right here in the borders. What better way to spend a summer day creating your very own hand-forged toasting fork, ready for winter nights cosied up by the fire toasting fresh bread with lots of butter😀

During the session Darren will have the forge lit and the anvils all set for each person to hand-forge their own unique toasting fork. You will use traditional blacksmithing techniques to create this practical item that you can be proud of having made, and use, for years to come.

Sessions will take place at The Steadings, Hawthornside, just outside Bonchester Bridge.

All materials and equipment are provided 🛠 along with hot and cold refreshments ☕ and locally-made Borders biscuits 🍪

Important Information:
*Sessions take place indoors in an unheated space 🔥 (it can still be a little chilly during the borders summertime and in the steading, so please bring a jumper just incase)
*Sturdy footwear is recommended 👞

Minimum age: 16 (with an accompanying adult) or 18+ unaccompanied

Cancellation terms
Cancellations made more than 14 days before the date of the activity will receive a full refund or can be used as a future booking credit, whichever you prefer. Cancellations less than 14 days before the date of the event will not be eligible for a refund, regardless of circumstance. It is not possible to carry forward a payment as a future credit if cancellations occur with less than 14 days’ notice. By booking your place you are accepting the cancellation terms.

Brand new blacksmithing activity, tickets available to book now!
Handmade forged feather quills with stand, £45 per person 🔥

Darren our specialist heritage blacksmith is coming back to Bonchester Bridge! He is joining us here at The Steadings, Hawthornside, Near Bonchester on Saturday, 18th July and bringing his anvils and hammers to fire up the mobile forge, using traditional blacksmithing techniques to teach participants how to create your very own hand-forged decorative feather quill with handmade stand. ⚒️

These look amazing as a talking-point, or as a paperweight or even as letter openers. Read on for the full scoop and how to book your tickets 😃

What to expect:
During the session, you'll learn a range of traditional blacksmithing skills including heating the metal in the forge, hammering, tapering, chisel work and carefully forming your piece into the elegant shape of a feather quill. With step-by-step guidance and one-to-one support throughout, you'll transform raw materials into a truly unique piece to be proud of 🙂

All materials and equipment will be provided, along with hot and cold refreshments and delicious locally made Borders biscuits 🫖☕️

With groups of a maximum of 10 people per session, we ensure everyone gets the guidance they need to have a great time and create something truly unique to take home and be proud of having made.

Booking notes:
Sessions will take place indoors in a dry barn but please wrap up warm as the barn isn't heated, and wear solid, sturdy shoes, as getting to the forge involves walking over a grassed area, which can be slippery when wet.

HANDMADE COPPER ROSE WORKSHOP SESSIONS: AVAILABLE TO BOOK NOW! 🌹🔨

After a few weeks off we are very excited to be kicking off our spring and summer activities programme with these fascinating metal working sessions 😀

This brand new workshop activity is led by the very talented Darren, who is a traditional blacksmith and specialist metal worker 🔥 Come along and learn how to create your very own beautiful handcrafted copper rose in this unique, hands-on metalworking experience at The Steadings, Hawthornside, just outside Bonchester Bridge.

Activity details:
During the session you’ll learn traditional copper-working techniques to transform raw copper sheet into a beautiful finished piece ✨ From cutting out blanks and drilling, to soldering leaves onto the stem and carefully shaping each petal, every step is supported with expert guidance. By the end of the session, you’ll leave with a stunning, unique, hand-made copper rose to take home 🌹

This immersive workshop offers a relaxed and rewarding introduction to traditional metalworking, perfect for beginners and those with more experience alike, and anyone looking to try something creative and different 🎨
