note from our Chair of Governors:
As Chair of Governors of the Hundon and Thurlow Primary Federation, I was so disappointed (in fact, despairing) to read a short statement in the Thurlow “Village Link”, inferring that Thurlow Church of England VC Primary School is in a position where it may close or merge with Hundon Community Primary School. THIS IS TOTALLY UNTRUE.
The facts are as follows:
• There are NO plans, either by the Governing Body or Suffolk County Council to close either school in the Federation or to merge them
• Due to excellent management, the schools are in a very secure financial position both now and in the longer term
• Although the number of pupils has fallen at Thurlow in the last couple of years, this is due to local demographics and is also mirrored across the country, with a smaller number of primary and pre-school children nationally
• The Governing Body has a detailed Strategic Plan to secure the long term future of the schools by increasing pupil numbers. This is being driven forward apace and there is a high level of confidence that pupil numbers will soon begin to rise.
Both schools in the Federation have a ‘Good’ Ofsted judgement and we are extremely proud of the quality of education and care provided for every single pupil. We are confident that Thurlow will consolidate its Ofsted rating at its next inspection and may even improve on it.
We know that with the continued support of the local community, our lovely village school will continue to thrive!
