End of an era today… and I’m definitely not okay about it! 🥹❤️
They say you shouldn’t mix business with friendship… but sometimes the very best things in life happen when you do exactly that.
Almost 10 years ago, a new “mum friend” asked me if I would look after her little boy. I had no idea then just how much that little yes would mean.
Over the years, she went on to keep me very busy with three more children, and somehow, what started as a childminding arrangement became something so much more. ❤️
Today, her youngest had her final day with me before starting school, and closing the door at the end of the day felt like the end of a very special chapter.
One of the things I love most about being a childminder is that it’s never just a job. I don’t simply look after children for a few hours a day and then send them home. I get to know them, love their little personalities, watch them grow, celebrate their milestones, comfort them on the difficult days and become part of their world during some of the most precious years of their lives.
I’ve had the absolute privilege of watching all four of these little ones grow up, and our friendship has grown alongside them. There have been nearly 10 years of cuddles, laughter, firsts, funny stories, messy days, special moments and memories that I know I’ll treasure forever.
I feel incredibly lucky that the job I chose has given me so much more than an income. It’s given me friendships, relationships and memories that will stay with me long after the children have outgrown my setting. ❤️
So today I’m feeling very proud, very grateful… and just a little bit heartbroken.
Thank you for trusting me with your four precious children over the years. It really has been an absolute privilege.
And although today might be the end of my time as their childminder, I know it’s certainly not the end of our friendship. 💕
