Ahead of World Drowning Prevention Day on Saturday 25th July, our lifesaving club would like you to watch our little video all about
Everyone floats differently. The most important bit is you need your head back & ears in so your mouth & nose are clear of the water, it doesn’t matter if your legs sink and you can use/move your arms and legs to help if you want.
But you need to..
🔺 Remember it.
🔺 Practice it.
🔺 Share it.
If you fall into water or find yourself in trouble…
🔹 Tilt your head back with your ears submerged
🔹 Relax and try to breath normally
🔹 Move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat
🔹 It’s ok if your legs sink, we all float differently
🔹 Once your breathing is under control
🔹 Call for help or swim to safety
🔹 If you see someone n trouble in the water, call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard.
Why Float to Live?
This advice is useful to everyone and has helped save the lives of more than 50 people in all sorts of situations. From children in rip currents to runners falling into canals, from people swept out by waves, to fisherman falling overboard.
• Around half those who accidentally drown every year had no intention to enter the water*.
• A recent RNLI survey revealed that nearly 1 in 3 people still do not know what to do if they unexpectedly get into difficulty in the water**.
