This afternoon, we were delighted to welcome Stanley, our Pets as Therapy dog, back for a wonderful outdoor visit.

Spending time together in the fresh air, Stanley thoroughly enjoyed meeting the children and sharing some calm, relaxing moments in nature. His gentle and friendly presence brought an immediate sense of comfort and tranquillity, creating a peaceful space for both children and adults to slow down, connect and unwind. It was lovely to see the smiles, confidence and calmness he inspired throughout the afternoon.

A perfect way to end a warm Friday, and a visit that was enjoyed by all. We look forward to seeing Stanley again soon!

Some of our Year 5 and 6 pupils had a fantastic opportunity to attend a tennis festival at Horndean Technology College this week.

Throughout the day, the children demonstrated outstanding teamwork, encouraging and supporting one another both on and off the court. The morning began with eight exciting rounds of the game Prison, where schools competed to keep as many teammates in play as possible. The matches were fast-paced, competitive, and great fun for everyone involved.

The children embraced the spirit of the event, showing resilience, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm throughout the day. They represented our school brilliantly, and we are incredibly proud of their positive attitude and excellent behaviour. Well done to all who took part and our thanks to Mr Macintyre and Miss Farthing for taking them! 👏🎾🏆

Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic visit to Marwell Zoo this week, demonstrating impeccable behaviour both on the coach and throughout their time at the park. The morning was spent finding out about a wide range of animals, including penguins and meerkats, with the giraffes proving to be a particular highlight for many of the children. Following this, the children paused for lunch and had the opportunity to enjoy some time in the playground. In the afternoon, the group visited the Tropical House, where the warm environment made for a memorable experience; the sloth was undoubtedly the star attraction. Next was a walk past the zebras and rhinos. Although the snow leopard could not be seen, the children were excited to learn that this was due to the recent arrival of cubs. Overall, it was a busy and thoroughly enjoyable day, leaving both pupils and staff with many happy memories.

Year 5 have recently taken part in a series of NHS-led mental health workshops, helping them to develop a deeper understanding of emotional wellbeing.

In the first session, the children explored a range of emotions and learned how feelings can influence both the body and mood. During the second workshop, the focus shifted to managing emotions, where the children were introduced to four practical strategies to support them when feeling overwhelmed. These included mindfulness activities such as reading and meditation, calming techniques involving touch like butterfly hugs, muscle relaxation to release tension, and controlled breathing exercises referred to as “bubbles.” In their final session, the children reflected on their individual interests and recognised how differences make everyone unique. They also discussed ways to prevent situations from escalating and explored the importance of making positive choices. The children considered the impact of words and the importance of kindness. The workshop concluded with the 5 Finger Positivity Challenge, encouraging them to recognise their strengths and build self-confidence. Throughout the workshops, the children engaged enthusiastically and gained valuable strategies to support their emotional wellbeing.

Unfortunately, due to the wet weather, we have made the decision to cancel Sports Day today.

We hope to reschedule Sports Day for Wednesday 8th July 2026 and are keeping our fingers crossed that the weather will be kinder to us then.

If children are already dressed in their PE kits, they are welcome to come to school wearing them today.
