Another busy class this evening, great to see you training hard too 👍 we packed a lot in!

Last week we worked on front & back kicks so yep, you guessed it we worked on round & side kick this evening!

We broke each kick down in to 4 stages & practised each kick on the spot before moving forwards in short fighting stance with round kick (kicking off the front foot) and then moving in side fighting stance with side kick.

After a quick drink we worked through a few block/strike combinations backwards & forwards before some partner work where we tried to execute our block/strike faster than our partner.

We had a few rounds of shoulders & knees before orange belts & above performed Saifa to finish the class.

Congratulations to Natalia who is now half way to blue belt 👏

And to Simin who was student of the week for awesome round kicks 👏

Congratulations to all who graded yesterday 👏👏👏

Tonight we focussed on kicks. We started off with front kick on the spot in short fighting stance, breaking the kick down in to four stages. We then did the same with back kick. Remember to include all four stages in your kicks & remember to shape your foot correctly.

After a quick drink break we worked on some combinations that included a front kick & we finished the class with some work on horse riding & sumo stance.

Congratulations to Hayden & Benjamin who are half way towards their next belt 👏👏

And well done to Peter who was student of the week 👏

October is a busy month - please check StackApp for details of everything that is going on!

A big class today 👍
Great to see so many of you training.

Tonight we focussed on making sure our hard & strong was actually hard & strong!

First of all we warmed up & then worked our way through the white & yellow belt grading combinations moving forwards & backwards in long forward stance.

After a quick drink break we moved on to kata. We watched the brown & black belts perform 1st & 2nd kata to see how much effort we should be putting in when performing kata. Remember, ALL kata are important to ALL grades!

Everyone had a go at 1st & 2nd kata by the numbers & then the white & yellow belts worked on basic strikes & blocks whilst orange belts & above went through Saifa & then blue belts & above performed Bassai Dai.

Congratulations to Carrie who graded to orange tip 👏

And congratulations to Ridhaan who was student of the week for awesome front kicks during the combinations & 2nd kata.

Remember there’s lots going on in October! Purple belts, bring a friend, self defence seminar to name a few - full details on Stack App 😉

Congratulations to all those who competed at South Eastern Zone Champions on Saturday just gone! Here are the full Region 20 Results!

Let’s work towards Nationals now, not long to go 💪🏾👏🏾🥇🥈🥉🎉

14/09/2026

We warmed up & got straight to work on some basic blocks & strikes. Remember blocks should be powerful like strikes!

After a quick drink break, we split in to two groups & worked on kata appropriate to the grades in the group. We made sure to include work we’d done last week on ripping our blocks & using our hips.

Congratulations to Terence who graded to yellow tip today 👏

And also to Daniel who was student of the week for a solid Bassai Dai 👏

October is purple belt month, so have a look for your purple belt at home 👀 or order one - see stack app/email for link.

Wow, what a big class tonight!
Great to see many more of you back from your summer holidays 👍

We started off by congratulating those who graded yesterday 👏

And after warming up we spent some time on inside block & then combined it with a reverse punch. We focussed on our hip movement for each move & making sure the block was strong.

After a quick drink we worked on a combination that we could use in a sparring situation which led us nicely on to a sparring session, with shoulders & knees for those without mitts & pads.

Remember - your challenge this week is to time yourself putting your sparring gear on & then practise putting it on every day & then time yourself at the end of the week to see if you are any quicker ⏱️

Stack app has details of upcoming tournaments, tournament training & seminars.

Finally, congratulations to Lexi who was student of the week this week for great focus & concentration 👏

31/08/2026

Bank Holiday Monday karate = lots of games with a karate twist!

And we threw in some strikes & blocks coming forwards & backwards & some front kicks for good measure.

Congratulations to Aronas & Fausta who graded in class - they’re well on their way to green belt 👏👏

And everyone was Student of the Week this week - with virtual certificates!

24/08/2026

Excellent training this evening everyone 👍

We warmed up & then looked at a 3 move combination from 1st kata & saw how it might apply to a real life self defence situation.

We worked through the kata moves a few times making sure we had the snap & speed that we would need if we were in a real life scenario. Then everyone performed the whole kata with this in mind too. You looked great 👍

We did a similar thing with sections of Saifa & Basai Dai & also worked on our pigeon toe & cat stances.

And after all that we still had time for everyone to have a go at shoulders & knees 😊

Student of the week was Neal for excellent concentration & effort 👏

In mid-June, several of our Queensland, New South Wales and Victorian senior group volunteered to complete a Homes set-up with our charity partner, RizeUp Australia.

RizeUp provides all the practical items needed for victim-survivors of family and domestic violence to make a fresh start, including furniture and other household items that help transform empty houses into homes.

When each of our GKR teams arrived at their location, they were greeted by a RizeUp driver, an empty house and a truck filled with flatpacks and homewares. The teams set about unloading the truck, assembling the flatpacks, making beds, filling pantries and carefully decorating the space. This included fitting out children’s bedrooms and providing them with the materials needed to start at a new school.

After 4+ hours of work at each location, the transformation from house to home left a lasting memory for all involved. With the knowledge that a family would be entering their newly furnished home in the coming days, each team member took comfort in knowing that they had helped create a new beginning for someone in need.

We are incredibly grateful to RizeUp for the work they do and for the opportunity to be involved in their Homes program. We also appreciate the amazing support shown by all of our students and instructors who participate in the Stop Domestic & Family Violence Purple Belt Campaign. Your involvement means a lot, not only to RizeUp and the families they help, but also to GKR Karate as a whole.

If you would like to volunteer with RizeUp to help setting up Homes, information can be found here https://www.rizeup.com.au/volunteer
