Hertfordshire Music Service Hertfordshire Music Service is one of the largest Local Authority Music Services in the country with over 560 teachers and 25,000 pupils across the county.

The Hertfordshire Music Forum was established with terms of reference in September 2011 and was officially launched when Hertfordshire Music Service formally became Lead Partner for the Hertfordshire Music Education Hub in September 2012. It is the strategic group representing the key countywide stakeholders and partners that deliver and promote music education across Hertfordshire. There are many

other regional and district partners who are crucial to local delivery. Their work is also supported by the Music Forum through the area based structure of the Hertfordshire Music Service and other Forum members. Hertfordshire Music Forum will:
1. Promote and support high quality music education in Hertfordshire
2. Through partnership working and advocacy, support the Hertfordshire Music Service in its role as Lead Partner
3. Provide critical challenge for Hertfordshire’s response to the National Music Plan, Local Authority Music Plan and other strategies as required
4. Maintain an education focus with clear values on standards, improvement and excellence both in the music curriculum and extra-curricular music
5. Ensure all strategies are tested with regards value for money, musical integrity, access and equalities.
6. Meet at least four times per year to receive reports from the Head of Hertfordshire Music Service and Partners as necessary
7. Endorse strategic plans and funding applications as required and communicate this endorsement.

Could you help shape the future of music in Hertfordshire?
Hertfordshire Music Service is inviting students in Years 9–12 to become part of the HMS Youth Council.

It’s a fantastic opportunity for young people to share their ideas, meet other young musicians and have a genuine say in the future of musical learning across Hertfordshire.

During the two-year programme, Youth Council members will have the opportunity to plan and deliver a live ‘Give a GiG’ event, share ideas around marketing, social media and inclusion, take part in the HMS Gala and present their ideas and achievements to the Hub Board.

Along the way, you’ll develop valuable experience in leadership, event planning, teamwork, communication and presentation, as well as experience that could strengthen your CV, college or university applications.

You don’t need to be an HMS student to apply. Anyone currently in Years 9–12 with an interest in music is welcome to apply.

There are only 10 places available.

Start date: Saturday, 17 October 2026
Location: Mid Herts Centre for Music & Arts, Hatfield

Salary Range:
- Variable Hours; Hourly - Inclusive of Holiday Pay £28.19
- Variable Hours; Hourly - Exclusive of Holiday Pay £25.04
- FTE Salary £30,443.40 (pro rata)
