Dr. Ceri Houlbrook, Lecturer in History and Folklore, and Dr. Owen Davies, Professor of Social History at the School of Creative Arts, recently appeared on ‘The Three Ravens’, a popular podcast dedicated to English myth and folklore. The show is hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.

As course leaders for the University of Hertfordshire’s unique MA in Folklore Studies, Dr. Houlbrook and Dr. Davies brought their expertise to discuss the local legend of the Hertfordshire giant Jack O’ Legs, the last person convicted of witchcraft in England!

MA Folklore Studies at the University of Hertfordshire is a one-of-a-kind postgraduate degree which explores legend, ritual, belief, and tradition in British society. The programme offers students a comprehensive grounding in the history of Folklore Studies and an opportunity to examine current work in the field.

Students from our first year Music degree courses were recently tasked with mixing a well-known track using the original studio files. 🎧

Using professional editing software, they were required to mix, process, and clean up the multi-track audio, gaining valuable hands-on experience working with industry-standard materials. 🖥️ 🎹

This was a great opportunity for students to develop real-world skills in audio editing and post-production.

The students are currently studying across a range of undergraduate music courses, including Music Composition for Film and Games, Songwriting and Artist Development, Audio Engineering, and Live Sound, Lighting, and Performance Technology.

Incredible day for University of Hertfordshire Film and TV and Audio Engineering students as they film the wonderful Gabriella Eva performing live at the legendary Jazz Café, London .

The venue is washed in the blissful sounds of
Gabriela's single 'Everything' - as we write!

In partnership with the Featured Artists Coalition, UH's Propeller Music Sessions offer students regular opportunities to work side-by-side with music artists.

Guided by industry mentors, the students gain invaluable hands-on experience, portfolio-ready footage, and the kind of confidence that only comes from doing the job for real. The artists meanwhile gain around £10,000 worth of professionally shot live content to support their careers.

More to come later from today's shoot 😍

Some fantastic moments captured during the National Saturday Club for Film and Screen’s recent trip to Sky Studios! 💫

The National Saturday Club is a free outreach program that offers 13–16-year-olds the opportunity to study subjects they love at their local university.

🎥 Our Film & Screen Club here at the School of Creative Arts gives local young people a chance to develop skills in cinematography, storytelling, and technical aspects of filmmaking and editing.

This week, the students got a tour of Sky studios and were shown how to create a film trailer!
