Today marks the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. As she is laid to rest, we join the nation in remembering our monarch who served us with kindness and dignity for over seventy years.

We’re saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen. As the longest reigning monarch in British history, Queen Elizabeth II has been an important figurehead for the UK and the Commonwealth during times of enormous social change. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family at this time as we join the nation in mourning.

A quick update from the paramedic science team here at UH:

- We have made changes to our teaching and assessments so we can keep the education of our students going. Teaching sessions have been put on our virtual learning environment and we have converted assessment to take place online.

- Our third year students are nearly at the end of their final semester and we are working with them to ensure they complete remaining assessments so they can move towards registration with the HCPC.

- A number of our students have taken up positions with NHS ambulance services working in their control rooms to help ease the burden on 999 call-takers.

- Our academic staff are undertaking clinical shifts either on emergency ambulances or in 111 centres.

- We are actively assisting with research into the impact of COVID-19 on ambulance staff.

- The latest Coronavirus (COVID-19) advice and information from the University can be found here: https://www.herts.ac.uk/coronavirus

Take care and we wish you all good health.

Stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.

University of Hertfordshire

Following yesterday’s emergency government meeting and subsequent advice from the Director of Public Health from Hertfordshire County Council, the University has made a number of decisions. These are outlined below:

- Reading week will commence next week (Monday 16 March – Friday 20 March) with no face-to-face teaching including lectures and seminars. This will give our staff time to prepare for online learning and will give you an opportunity to focus on your assignments.
- Starting Monday 23 March, the University will move to online learning for all students until after the Easter break, when we will reassess based on the most up-to-date information. We ask that students do not attend sessions on campus, including lectures and seminars, and instead access their studies using our online learning platform, StudyNet/Canvas.
- Lecturers will adapt sessions as necessary to ensure students continue to receive high standards of learning and information on how this will work will be made available shortly.

We apologise for the disruption to your usual learning environment and want to reassure you that this decision has not been taken lightly and has been made with your safety as the main priority. Further information will be available on StudyNet and via email.
