Have you checked your child’s eligibility for funded childcare? Children aged from 9 months old will be able to apply for 15 hours of funded childcare from September - please note this commences from the term following them becoming 9 months old.
Brightside Preschool aim to provide affordable childcare to parents and are proud to offer all of our places as government funded, where parents are eligible.
Please be aware that places are FUNDED not free. Parents need to apply for the funding, provide us with a funding code, and then the cost is claimed back from the county council/government.
We also ask parents to contribute £1 per week to pay for the snack provided to the children. Funding does not cover the cost of food or other consumables used in the process of delivering funded childcare.
Today the first stage of the country’s largest expansion in childcare begins.
Thousands of working parents of two-year-olds are now able to access 15 hours a week of government-funded childcare.
Here’s how it works 👇
From right now, working parents of 2-year-olds can get 15 hours a week of free childcare during term time.
From 1 September, this will expand to cover children aged 9 months to 2 years.
And from September 2025, the 15 hours will increase to 30 hours a week.
This means parents will get funded childcare from the end of parental leave until their child starts primary school.
Thats’s an average saving of £6,900 per year.
But we’re also making sure the childcare sector is prepared to deliver it, by:
🧒Increasing how much funding nurseries receive per child
🧒Increasing the number of staff and childcare places
🧒Boosting the recruitment and retention of childminders

Today we had an inset day for our staff to take part in Makaton training. Makaton is a unique language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate. It supports the development of essential communication skills such as attention and listening, comprehension, memory, recall and organisation of language and expression. We are looking forward to using our Makaton training in the Preschool and will be sharing weekly signs with our families too
