We’ve found our **dream site**, and we’re expanding our community from **September 2025**! 💫

🌟 **Exciting Times at The Kids Collective!** 🌟  

We’ve been a little quiet, but that’s because things have been full-on (in the BEST way)! 🎉 Two weeks in, and here’s what we’ve been up to:  

🧵 Costume making  
🍞 Bread baking  
🌿 Wildlife spotting  
💃 Dancing (so much dancing!)  
💐 Organising weddings, selling perfumes, ice cream & drawing clubs — all led by the kids!  

We’re slowly finding our groove, and we’re beyond grateful for all your support so far. Thank you! 💖  

🚀 For those new here: The Kids Collective is a child-led, community-driven project for ages 4–18.

🌱 We've started with a limited age range and small cohort in central St Leonards. Currently full, but from September, we’ll welcome more people. Stay tuned for open day updates and news about our dream move to a bigger space this summer!  

We’re open Tues–Thurs, 9.30–3pm. 🌟

Happy New Year!

Just a quick update to confirm the upcoming dates:

1.⁠ ⁠ ⁠Open Day - If you were hoping to attend the extra open day on the 4th January, please ensure you book on using the link in bio.

2.⁠ Parents Evening - We’re holding a parents’ evening on Wednesday, 8th January, from 6:00 to 7:30pm. It will be an opportunity to hear more about The Kids Collective and ask any questions you may have. Please book on using the link in bio.

3.⁠ ⁠The Admissions window will close on Sunday, 12th January. If you’re planning on applying, please do send in your application as soon as you’re ready to allow us time to process everything smoothly.

Last weekend we had facilitator training delivered by the original school 💥 What an amazing (and intense) experience! We are feeling very blessed to be on this journey with such phenomenal support from East Kent Sudbury! And our facilitators are feeling very equipped and excited to start sharing their old and new skills with our children in Feb 🥳

We have a few exciting updates to share:

Age Range:
We are pleased to announce that we are increasing our initial age range to welcome children aged 4 to 10 (currently in Year 5 or equivalent).

Facilitators:
We have been overwhelmed by the number and quality of applicants for our facilitator roles. And so, the recruitment process has taken longer than expected - it has been very important for us to get it right. We are delighted to inform you that we have hired our first two amazing facilitators, who we are very excited about. More about them on previous post 🌟

As a result of a longer recruitment time, we will be pushing our start date back to 24th February 2025.

Fees:
Our fees will be tailored to individual circumstances, with a maximum of £5,200 per year. We are committed to making our school as accessible as possible, (with the aim that one day it will be fee free for all). If you’re interested in your child joining us, we’d be delighted to discuss the details further after the open days.

Open Days:
Our first open days are scheduled for the 7th and 8th of December. We welcome any children (and their families or carers) who are interested in starting in February 2025 or September 2025 at this stage. We will be holding more open days for younger children next year. Introducing our facilitators!!!

1 ✨Sanne Aldrich (she/her)

Sanne is passionate about working with children in a child-centred and holistic way. She wants every child to have a childhood full of possibilities, adventure, freedom, and joy. Sanne has specialised in child development, play, sustainability, and outdoor learning. She has worked as a teacher for 10 years and was previously the manager and safeguarding lead at In2play outdoor preschool. She is a lifelong learner who loves to read, make things, and look after the animals in her tiny smallholding. Don’t be surprised if she invites you to share food and stories around a campfire!🔥

2 💫 Shreyans Iyer (he/him)

Shreyans is a musician, artist, and educator whose work explores the intersections of creativity, play, and self-empowerment. He has over ten years of experience facilitating playful spaces for children and adults, in India and the UK, most recently facilitating song-writing workshops at the Barbican Centre and leading an arts programme working with children from marginalised communities in Mumbai. He firmly believes in the value of cognitive and cultural diversity in the expansive human ecosystem and enjoys witnessing the beauty of the imagination. 🌟

A few updates to share:

Group Name - We’re renaming this group from ‘A New School’ to ‘The Kids Collective - A Sudbury Inspired Home Ed Group.’ 🍂

Opening Date - We’re pushing for our planned January 2025 opening. This will depend on Ofsted and HMRC processing times, which are running a bit behind at the moment. Worst case, it shouldn’t be delayed by more than a few weeks 💫

📣 Open Days - We’ll be hosting open days towards the end of next month for children interested in starting in January. More details to come soon.

📍 Location - We’ve secured a great location to start, but its size will limit our numbers. We’re actively looking for a larger space to move to in 2025 to help us grow. If anyone knows of a site near Hastings with at least 100sqm of indoor space, running water, electricity, and ideally some woodland or outdoor space, please let us know!

🧍 Facilitators - We’re now hiring for our first two facilitators (a Sudbury-style version of a teacher). Please share the attached job advert with anyone who might be interested! No teaching experience needed. We’re looking for two passionate, dedicated individuals excited about alternative education and who believe in the innate abilities of children to explore, grow, and learn when given the right environment. If you love working with kids and are inspired by the idea of education beyond the traditional classroom, we’d love to hear from you!

Supplies - We’re also starting to gather educational resources to enrich our environment, including books, art supplies, craft materials, games, and more. If you have any items to donate or know of good sources, we’d love to hear from you!
