Sophie Mien - Tutoring Private tutor and highly experienced, qualified teacher specialising in Early Years & Key Stage 1. I am DBS checked and am paediatric first aid trained.

I’m Sophie, a highly experienced and qualified primary school teacher offering tuition to children aged 4 – 7 years old. I offer sessions in Phonics, early reading and writing, maths, all foundation subjects including geography, history, art and DT, and all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum including fine motor skills. I am passionate about the ethos of learning through play and

children learning through their own interests, so I also offer child-led sessions where I support your child in their interests in that moment. This approach enables children to develop their curiosity, feeding into their natural fascination with the things around them as they explore current interests, ask questions and extend their thinking. These sessions enable children to develop learning skills as they set their own goals, think critically and problem solve. The focus of these sessions is in the learning process rather than the end goal. I become an active participant in the child’s interests and facilitate, scaffold and support learning as opportunities arise. I am a qualified primary school teacher with a specialism in Early Years. I have worked as a primary school teacher for the past 16 years. Alongside this, I worked for the local authority as a Foundation Stage lead practitioner for 5 years, supporting Early Years settings across East Sussex. ☀️ Update! 🤫 So, I have been pretty quiet on here recently because it's all change here! I have taken a new job. Sadly, I will be pausing my tutoring for next term while I settle into the new routine and spend some quality time with my beautiful daughter before she starts school in September. 🌈

We are also in the process of moving to Horam/Heathfield area in a few weeks time 🏠 I am considering my options for my tutoring for September, so please do feel free to message to register your interest and I will pop you on my "interested" list and will be in contact if I have any spaces.

Lastly, I am so grateful to everyone who has supported me and send out a huge THANK YOU to you all! 💗 It has been such an amazing experience to work with my wonderful tutees and amazing professionals over the past year 🎉

🐣 It was great to get back to my tutees this week after a break over the Easter holiday. 🌈 We enjoyed some rainbow number formation and funky phonics. 🦁 One of my tutees was feeling inspired by his science lesson at school and had lots of amazing animal facts he was keen to share with me. So, we played two truths and a lie with an animal theme and the added challenge that he had to include one of the spellings we have been working on in each sentence - he did a fantastic job! 🎉
