There is so much to celebrate at Ark Alexandra Academy!

Our students have achieved a record set of GCSE results, marking a second consecutive year of dramatic improvement and cementing our position as one of the most improved schools in England.

70% of students achieved a pass in both English & Maths — up from 52% in 2024. That’s an incredible 18 percentage point increase in just two years!

Outcomes for students with SEND have more than tripled over the same period.

And our recent Ofsted inspection recognised the strength of the academy, rating us STRONG IN ALL AREAS.

Ofsted highlighted that:

“Pupils are prepared to succeed in life beyond school.”

“Leaders ensure that pupils achieve very well in all of their subjects.”

These results are about more than numbers. They represent the hard work, determination and resilience of our students, alongside the commitment of our staff, families and the whole Ark Alexandra community.

And there’s even more to celebrate, with students achieving exceptional individual results — including multiple Grade 9s.

Ark Alexandra Exhibition Celebrates a Showcase of Creativity and Talent!

Students, staff, families and members of the local community came together this week to celebrate the remarkable creativity and talent of Ark Alexandra Academy students at the GCSE Art, Photography and Design Technology Exhibition, held at the Hastings Centre

Visitors were treated to an outstanding display of artwork, photography and design projects, showcasing the imagination, technical skill and dedication of our GCSE students.

From stunning paintings and drawings to creative photography and innovative Design Technology work, the exhibition highlighted the incredible talent within our school community.

Highlights included:
A professional-quality exhibition of GCSE Art, Photography and DT work
A spectacular dance performance inspired by Picasso's Guernica
Delicious canapés prepared and served by our GCSE Hospitality & Catering students
Visits from our Year 7 and 8 students and Ark Blacklands pupils, inspiring the next generation of creative minds
An exhibition evening where students proudly shared their work with parents, carers and the wider community.

It was wonderful to hear so many positive comments from visitors, with many praising the exceptional standard of work on display and the confidence, creativity and ambition shown by our students.

The academy would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the event. Special recognition goes to Ms Dawes, Head of Art & Design, Mr Woodhead, Leader of Art, and Ms Sales for organising the exhibition. Thanks also go to Miss Elliott, Mr Mardle and Mrs Fraser for inspiring students and supporting the exhibition, Ms Vanner and her Dance students for their outstanding performance, and Mrs O'Connor, Mrs Donoghue and the GCSE Catering students for providing refreshments.

The academy would also like to recognise the invaluable support of its technicians and site team, whose hard work helped bring the event to life.

A special thank you to the Hastings Centre for providing such a fantastic venue for the exhibition. The space offered the perfect setting to celebrate and showcase the incredible creativity and achievements of our students.

Most importantly, congratulations to all the students whose work was showcased. Their creativity, perseverance and talent made the exhibition a truly memorable celebration of the arts at Ark Alexandra Academy.

Ark Alexandra Students Take on the Gold DofE Challenge on Dartmoor!

Six of our students recently travelled to Dartmoor with Mr Burchell and Miss Clark to complete their Practice Gold The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Expedition, and what an adventure it was!

Known for its unpredictable weather, Dartmoor decided to offer just one condition for the entire expedition... heat!

Despite long days, challenging terrain and carrying heavy rucksacks, our students rose to the challenge brilliantly, demonstrating:

Resilience
Teamwork
Independence
Determination
Outstanding positivity

The group successfully navigated their routes, reached checkpoints on schedule and showed excellent campcraft skills, preparing their own meals and managing life on expedition with confidence.

With temperatures soaring, extra checkpoints were introduced to ensure everyone stayed hydrated and safe, and our students responded brilliantly to the demands of the expedition.

This practice expedition has provided invaluable preparation for their assessed Gold expedition in October, and they should be incredibly proud of everything they achieved.

A huge well done to all six students, as well as Mr Burchell and Miss Clark, for a fantastic few days on Dartmoor. We wish the team every success as they continue their Gold DofE journey!

Ark Alexandra Students Help Design the Future!

We're excited to share the latest update on our Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) Project, and the best part is that many of the ideas came directly from our students!

Following workshops earlier this year, the final plans have now been developed and work will begin over the summer to create a fantastic new outdoor space for students in the Compass Centre.

Highlights include:

🌳 A beautiful new pergola and covered seating area
🌿 More planting and natural features
💧 An interactive rainwater feature with a special cloud installation
🐝 Opportunities to support biodiversity and wildlife
📚 Outdoor learning spaces focused on sustainability and the environment

One of the most exciting features will allow students to watch rainwater travel through visible pipework before flowing through the cloud feature, helping bring sustainable drainage to life while creating a calming and relaxing environment.

Many elements of the design were inspired by ideas submitted by students, including suggestions from Sydney, Archie, Bailey, Leanne and Coby. Their creativity and enthusiasm have helped shape a space that future students will enjoy for years to come.

Once completed, the area will provide opportunities for outdoor learning, wellbeing, sustainability education and environmental exploration.

We can't wait to see the finished project and share photographs with you later this year!
