This week, all of our children have made beautiful Valentines cards for the special people in their lives. This has been a great opportunity to discuss feelings, emotions and families.
We have also had a Valentine’s Day treasure hunt in the garden.

Healthy eating and nutrition are always a part of what we do, and what the children learn at The Burrow. Yesterday the children helped to make our signiture Mediterranean vegetable pasta sauce. This is a favourite with all the children at The Burrow, and it’s packed with fresh vegetables.

So not only are the children learning about healthy eating, they are also building their fine motor skills while using our safety knives to chop up the vegetables.

They were also able to take a jar of their delicious homemade sauce home to their families.

Yesterday at The Burrow we were focusing on Chinese New Year. 🧧

We learned about the story of the Chinese zodiac, and as it is the year of the snake, we made some snakes out of air drying modelling clay. 🐍

This was a wonderfully tactile activity, helping the children to build their fine motor skills and coordination, as well as being lots of fun!

This week at The Burrow, we have been embracing the changing seasons, and getting creative to enhance the children’s learning of autumn.
From baking savoury leaf shaped biscuits in the kitchen, to collecting fallen leaves, creating colourful firework pictures, and learning about the autumnal colours.
Autumn really is a magical time for learning.

Outdoor learning is at the heart of what we do at The Burrow. We love to attract and learn about local wildlife including a wide range of birds, squirrels, frogs and insects.
To enhance and broaden the children’s experiences we have recently built a child-safe pond area that can be accessed only with adult supervision.
Today we took delivery of some British pond snails and the children were able to have a close up look, handle, and then help to release the snails into their new home.

Autumn may have just begun, but it still feels like summer in The Burrow kitchen. Today we’ve been turning the last of our beautiful homegrown tomatoes into delicious slow roasted tomato sauce, to go over fresh homemade pasta.
All the children have been involved every step of the way!

Throwback Thursday.

Looking back to May when we were raising ducklings from eggs. What a magical experience for the children, (and the parents!).

Not only were our little ducklings the cutest things ever, the children learned so much.

We can’t wait to do it all again next year.

Beans are on The Burrow menu this week as we are able to harvest our first lot of beautiful runner and dwarf beans. The children have been hunting, picking and preparing the beans themselves for their own mealtimes.

There will be lots more in the coming weeks, our bean plants are covered in lovely flowers.

There’s nothing better than digging in the mud; except when you’re digging for treasure! The children were so excited to get their hands dirty, and dig up their first crop of incredible potatoes today.

There will be so much more to harvest in the coming weeks.
It’s such an exciting time to be in the garden.
