With A Level and GCSE results being released soon you may be worried about what to do if you did not receive the grade you were hoping for. If you need to retake I can offer intensive tutoring either one to one or in small groups. I have ten years of teaching experience and have tutored a number of retake students who then received their desired grade. If you are beginning your GCSE’s I can help you with your weaker areas and give you a focused and clear pathway towards achieving your desired grade.
If you are an A Level student I can offer high quality university style tutoring to not only help in your exams but to prepare you for your degree in any art or humanities subject.
The cost of my one hour sessions begin at £30, I personally believe that small groups are better for your learning and prices for groups are available on request. Sessions can be done in your home or at Solicitors to the Old Town 64d High Street.

A level English Literature
£35.00 an hour For A level English Literature tuition.
This will include:
- [ ] Free initial consultation with the student (and parents or carers if they wish)
- [ ] Tuition delivered in large office space in the centre of the Old Town.
- [ ] Groups of a maximum of four are welcome and it is my belief that especially in a subject like literature having people to discuss ideas with is invaluable.
- [ ] There may be an Initial added charge to cover costs for purchasing and preparation of texts that I may not have taught before.
- [ ] Surcharge for marking practice essays.
Currently these sessions would only be available after 6pm on weekdays, Saturday or Sunday sessions can be made available if needed. If parents or carers want to stay they are welcome to sit on our comfy sofas.
There will be a learning contract between myself, the student and their carer which will outline expectations.

I am finally in a position to offer face to face tutoring for one to one and small groups in an office space in the Old Town.

As kids head back to school it will soon become clear what they have and have not missed.
There are a couple of things to remember about this.
1. You did the best you could or would have liked to do and there is no reason to feel any other way.
2. Some kids may have gone on nature walks and done crafting projects and you were just about able to get them to glance at a pen. Those who did those things have no reason to feel superior or to make others feel less so.
3. Allow your child time to make friends again, be social, work out how to behave with a teacher. This will be difficult.
4. The pandemic is not an excuse or a reason for your child not achieving their goals. Don’t tell them their lives will be ruined and don’t allow others to imply that.
5. Once you’ve got all that sorted start to talk to your child about what they are struggling with. Be honest, tell them how you were at school and be supportive, however don’t allow them to become lazy. Motivating this generation to actively participate in learning will be difficult and will only work if you, your child and their teachers are pulling in the same direction.
Finally, if you think it would help, find a tutor. You may have to try a couple before you find one that fits but there will be someone to help.
