🎊 After 185 years of providing education, we warmly invite all alumni and anyone connected to the school to a final special Royal School celebration. To attend, please scan the QR code or follow the provided link to enter the ballot. All alumni applications must be submitted by May 19th.

👉 Please note that there will be no on-site parking available on the day of the event. We kindly request that you park in town instead. The Royal School minibuses will operate a shuttle service for guests starting at 10:15 AM, with return trips beginning at 12:30 PM. A message from our Headmaster, Mr Paul Norman

Welcome back to school for our final term! We hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable break and is ready to embark on the final stretch of this academic year.

As we approach the exam period, I want to remind all our pupils about the importance of staying focused, organised, and positive. Your hard work and dedication throughout the year will prepare you well for this term. Remember to take care of yourselves: get plenty of rest and maintain a balanced routine.

Exams can be challenging, but they allow you to showcase your knowledge and skills. Believe in yourselves and your abilities. You have the support of everyone here at The Royal School—teachers, peers, and support staff.

Mylee recently participated in the TAGB (The Tae Kwon-Do Association of Great Britain) English Open. Now that she is 16, she has moved up to the adult coloured belt division in this circuit. Competing in the patterns category with approximately 20 participants, Mylee successfully advanced through the first round and won the finals with scores of 9.7, 9.7, 9.7, 9.6, and 9.6!

In individual sparring, Mylee remained undeterred facing the adult competitors and fought exceptionally well, earning her place in the finals. The match ended in a draw, and they had to compete again for an additional minute. Although Mylee narrowly missed the Gold, she earned a well-deserved Silver medal.

In the team patterns event, with 12 teams competing, Mylee and her team found themselves in a four-way tie for Gold and had to compete once more. They ultimately took 1st place. Finally, in team sparring (with the same team from patterns), Mylee and her team faced 8 teams of various ages, builds, and abilities. They fought brilliantly and secured the last Gold medal of the day!

Overall, Mylee and the team achieved a remarkable total of 3 Golds and 1 Silver!
Incredible outcome Mylee, well done!

Last week, Year 11 and Sixth Form took part in an Army Elite Skills session. During the session, they explored various careers within the Armed Forces and applied their teamwork, communication, and confidence skills to complete different tasks.

Congratulations to Charlie, who travelled to Sheffield on Saturday, 8 March, ready for his weigh-in at 8:15 am on Sunday. Charlie worked hard in all his fights and came away with a bronze medal from the British Schools competition. Great job, Charlie!

March has been a football frenzy month so far. Our 11-a-side internal GCSE match, the recent weekend sports, and watching a Premier League match have all contributed to the excitement.

Mylee has achieved significant milestones in her martial arts journey. In early February, she went to Norfolk to attend the WMAGC GB (World Martial Arts Games Committee) selection day and earned her spot to represent Team GB in Norway this November for the fifth consecutive year. Recently, she completed a challenging four-and-a-half-hour grading session, demonstrating her basics and performing 24 katas. She also engaged in 45 minutes of kumite against experienced instructors, showcasing her fitness and mental strength. As a result, Mylee was awarded her Nidan (Second Dan Black Belt), an impressive accomplishment for a 16-year-old. Congratulations Mylee!

Just before the half-term break, we welcomed Anna Laban to our school to speak with Year 7 about careers in the Health and Care Sector. Anna is a Practice Development Midwife for the NHS, and she shared information about the various roles within this large organisation, including doctors, IT consultants, and the estates teams. This session supports and informs Year 7’s entries for the Step Into the NHS competition, which is part of our Future Ready initiative.
Thank you to Year 7 for their exemplary behaviour and to Anna for sharing her career journey with us.
