RYA First Aid Course

This RYA one-day course covers all the basic first aid subjects, but from a boating perspective. It is aimed at anyone who goes afloat, whether on inland waters, rivers, estuaries, or on cross channel passages.

This course is MCA approved and satisfies the requirements for Coastal Skipper Yachtmaster and Advanced Powerboat certificates of competence, Offshore Race Crews (Cat. 1&2), most Ocean Rowing and some commercial work afloat.

This RYA course is also suitable for SUP Instructors requiring a Senior First Aid Certificate.

Course content includes:

- CPR and the drowning protocol
- The recovery position in a confined space
- Cold shock and hypothermia from immersion and/or exposure
- Seasickness and dehydration
- Controlling bleeding
- Bandaging
- Shock; how to recognise and treat it
- Equipping a suitable First Aid Kit for going to sea
- The contents of the Category C First Aid Kit
- How to get medical advice or assistance by VHF radio
- How to prepare for the evacuation of a casualty by helicopter

RYA Powerboat Level 2

This popular 2 day course takes place with 3 candidates and teaches practical boat handling to navigation, close-quarter maneuvering, man overboard and mooring as well as using the sea lock at Hartlepool Marina.

RYA Powerboat Level 1 course
Sunday 24th May - 1 place remaining!

This course is designed for beginners and novices, providing a practical introduction to powerboating.

This 1 day course provides a fantastic syllabus on the water and in the classroom. The qualification prepares you with boat handling skills and crew techniques.

Minimum age is 8 years old. Candidates under the age of 16 will be issued with an endorsed certificate.

RYA SRC VHF Marine Radio Course

This 1 day practical course and exam is for anyone who owns or is about to purchase a fixed or handheld marine VHF radio.

The course covers the basics of radio operation, frequencies, distress, emergency and medical assistance procedures, making ship to shore telephone calls, Digital Selective Calling, Global Maritime Distress Safety System

A VHF radio is an important piece of safety equipment, and it is vital to understand the correct procedures.

The Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a VHF radio either fixed or hand held.

Intro to Riding (PWC experience) this 2.5 hour training involves learning how to operate a jet ski at Hartlepool Marina. An instructor will be with you at all times, teaching you slow speed manoeuvres, how to lock out, and use the craft as well as operating at sea.
