As part of the SQP week we have asked one of our most recent learners to pass the qualification a few questions:
➡ What initially motivated you to enrol on the Companion Animal SQP course?
I was initially drawn to the Companion Animal SQP course as I work in a busy referral hospital and there are often times when the nurses can't leave the ward to dispense medication so being qualified allows me to help with this.
➡ How did the course content helped link the theory to real world practice?
The course content included lots of scenario-based learning which allows you to learn the theory and then apply it to realistic situations. I found this was a really good way to learn as it teaches you not just the theory but also how you might use it once you are qualified.
➡ How would you now describe the role of a C SQP to someone considering the qualification?
There is more to the role of a C-SQP than I first realised, it gives you the chance to use what you have learnt about animal health and medicines and make a real difference to both owners and their pets by providing professional advice.
➡ How has the course reinforced the importance of compliance and professionalism in your role?
Qualifying as an SQP comes with a high level of responsibility, the course provides information on the consequences of non-compliance and the importance of maintaining professionalism particularly when providing information to owners.
➡ Would you recommend the Level 4 Award for Animal Medicines Advisors (SQP-Companion Animal) course to others, and why?
Yes, I would definitely recommend this course to others, being a qualified C-SQP has allowed me to progress in my career and gain knowledge that I can put to good use every day.
The course content is really interesting and presented in a way which makes the information easy to understand.

As part of the we are celebrating all the SQPs at CVTC - Veterinary Training Centre!
You have probably spoken to a Suitably Qualified Person (SQP) without even realising it! SQPs, also known as Animal Medicines Advisors, are often the first point of contact and heir high level of knowledge, qualification and training helps ensure animals get the right products and owners are given advice on correct, safe and responsible use of those medicines.
This National SQP Week, let’s celebrate that expertise.
