📚✨ Book Lovers in Eagles Class! ✨📚

This week, Eagles Class enjoyed a special visit to our school library, where they took on the role of reading ambassadors. The children carefully explored a range of books, selecting titles they would recommend to others and choosing their favourites to feature in a brand-new library display.

As they shared their recommendations, pupils reflected on what makes a great book, discussing memorable characters, exciting plots and stories that capture the imagination. Their thoughtful choices will help inspire other children across the school to discover their next favourite read.

To make the display even more special, the children designed and decorated colourful bookmarks to accompany their chosen books. Their creativity, care and enthusiasm for reading were evident throughout the activity.

At St Peter's, we believe that developing a love of reading opens doors to a lifetime of learning. It was wonderful to see the children sharing their passion for books and encouraging others to explore new stories and authors.

🧪🍭 Sweet Science in Year 5 & 6! 🍭🧪

Our Year 5 and 6 children have been putting their scientific skills to the test as part of their exciting FizzFuel project!

This week, they investigated the question:

🔍 Which liquid dissolves sugar the fastest?

Working like real scientists, the children planned and carried out a fair test, making predictions, observing carefully, measuring accurately and recording their findings. They used scientific vocabulary confidently to explain their thinking and draw evidence-based conclusions.

The investigation sparked fantastic discussions about healthy lifestyles, sugar in drinks and how science helps us make informed choices. Some of the results even surprised our young scientists!

We were incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, curiosity and teamwork shown throughout the lesson. The children demonstrated excellent enquiry skills, thought critically about their results and confidently explained their conclusions using scientific evidence.

At St Peter's, learning goes beyond simply finding answers. We encourage children to ask questions, explore ideas and develop the confidence to investigate the world around them.

🌟 Growing Hearts and Minds Through Spirituality 🌟

At St Peter's, we believe education is about much more than academic success. We want every child to develop into a confident, caring and reflective individual who understands themselves, values others and feels equipped to make a positive difference in the world.

That's why we are excited to introduce our new Spirituality Framework.

When people hear the word spirituality, they sometimes think it is simply about Religious Education or religion. While faith and belief can be part of spiritual development, spirituality is much broader than that. It is about supporting the whole child and helping children explore who they are, how they relate to others, their place in the world and the big questions that shape our lives.

🌾 Harvesting Kindness Together

Today, our school community gathered at St Peter's Church to celebrate Harvest Festival in a beautiful act of worship that reflected our vision of Love, Learn, Shine.
Throughout the service, children shared readings, prayers, songs and reflections focused on Christian love, belonging and generosity. We explored how even the simplest acts of kindness can help others feel valued, supported and part of our community.

A particular highlight was seeing our Worship Leaders lead the service with such confidence and reverence. They were superb ambassadors for our school, helping everyone reflect on how we can use our gifts to make a difference in the lives of others. We were also delighted by the beautiful singing from our younger children, who brought smiles to many faces.

Harvest reminds us that generosity comes in many forms. While we were incredibly grateful for the practical donations given to support the work of St Peter's Church, we also reflected on the gifts we can offer every day: our time, our kindness, our encouragement and our willingness to help others. These acts let people know they are seen, valued and cared for.

Thank you to all our families for your wonderful support, both through your generous donations and by joining us for worship. Your presence helped make the service such a special celebration of community and belonging.

Together, we continue to show what it means to Love, Learn and Shine, serving others with grateful hearts and growing a community where everyone belongs.

🍁 Autumn Adventures in Wrens 🍁
Our Wrens children enjoyed a wonderful autumn hunt today, making the most of the beautiful sunshine as they explored the Library Gardens.
The children discovered colourful autumn leaves, collected conkers and even watched leaves gently floating down from the trees. It was a fantastic opportunity to develop curiosity, observation skills and an appreciation of the changing seasons.
Mrs Renton said: "There was such excitement as the children spotted signs of autumn all around them. Watching the leaves fall from the trees was a magical moment and sparked lots of thoughtful conversations about the world around us."
Why not continue the adventure this weekend with an autumn walk, collecting natural treasures or creating an autumn collage together at home?

The children in Owl Class are about to begin an exciting Design and Technology project where they will learn about pneumatics and use their knowledge to create moving models.
To support their learning, we would love any donations of: 🔹 Clean plastic bottles
🔹 Empty washing-up liquid bottles
🔹 Egg boxes
By reusing everyday materials, the children will not only develop their design and engineering skills but also learn about the importance of sustainability.

🧊 Cool Science in Starlings!
This week, our Year 4 Starlings children stepped into the role of scientists as they investigated how water temperature affects the speed at which ice melts.
The children made predictions, carried out a fair test and carefully observed what happened. There was plenty of excitement as they compared results and discussed their findings, discovering that warmer water causes ice to melt more quickly.

Mrs Martin said: “I was so impressed with the children's enthusiasm and scientific thinking throughout this investigation. They asked thoughtful questions, made sensible predictions and worked brilliantly together to explain their results. It was wonderful to see their curiosity in action.”

At St Peter's, we encourage children to learn through enquiry and exploration. This investigation was a fantastic example of our vision to Love, Learn, Shine in action. The children showed a love of learning through their curiosity, developed their understanding through hands-on scientific enquiry and shone through their teamwork, discussion and determination to find answers.

🏡 Try it at home! Why not place ice cubes in different locations around your house and predict which one will melt first? Encourage your child to explain their reasoning and compare the results, just like a real scientist.

✨ Learning About Faith, Values and the Wider World

At St Peter’s, Religious Education is about so much more than learning stories from faith traditions. It helps children explore important questions, develop respect for others and build the understanding and empathy they need to shine in our diverse world.
This week, children in Year 1 and EYFS have been exploring the Christian Creation Story. In Kingsfishers, the children revisited what God created on each day before discussing how we can care for the world around us. Through thoughtful conversations, they reflected on responsibility, gratitude and the importance of looking after our planet for future generations.
Miss Ward said, "The children made excellent links between the Creation Story and the choices we make every day to care for the world around us. Their thoughtful ideas showed both understanding and compassion."
Meanwhile, our Wrens children built on their previous learning by exploring the story of Adam naming the animals. Using their growing phonics knowledge, they identified and recorded the initial sounds of different animals while enjoying a range of engaging animal-themed activities.
Miss Renton said, "The children were excited to explore the animals and eager to use their phonics skills to record what they could hear. It was wonderful to see their curiosity and confidence growing through their learning."
Experiences like these help children develop communication skills, curiosity, critical thinking and respect for different beliefs and perspectives. These are valuable qualities that prepare them not only for the next stage of their education but for life in modern Britain and the wider world.
By encouraging children to ask questions, reflect on values and consider the experiences of others, RE plays an important role in helping them to Love, Learn and Shine every day. 🌟

🍂 Wrens Are Discovering the Magic of Autumn! 🍂

Our Wrens children have been making the most of the season as they explore the wonderful signs of autumn through play, creativity and outdoor learning. 🍁
This week, the children enjoyed a range of fine motor activities and autumn-themed small world play using natural resources. They have been investigating seasonal changes, sharing ideas and developing their curiosity about the world around them.

One of the highlights of the week was an incredible teamwork challenge outdoors! The children worked together to create a colourful line of autumn leaves along the garden fence, stretching all the way to the mud kitchen. Their beautiful display showcased stunning shades of yellow, orange, red and brown and demonstrated fantastic collaboration and determination.

💬 Mrs Renton said: "The children have loved exploring the changes that autumn brings. It has been wonderful to see their curiosity, creativity and teamwork shine through as they investigate the natural world around them. The leaf display was a fantastic example of the children working together and taking pride in their learning."

We are also looking forward to our Signs of Autumn Walk, where the children will continue their seasonal investigations and discover even more changes in God's wonderful world.

🏫🔍 Our children have become Building Detectives! 🔍🏫

This term, pupils at St Peter's C of E Primary School have been uncovering the fascinating history hidden within the very walls of our school.

As part of their Victorian history learning, children have been exploring old maps, archives and historical records to discover what stood here long before it became a school. They were amazed to learn that their classrooms were once part of a Victorian hospital, where local people came to receive care and treatment.

The project has also helped children learn more about the wider history of our local area, including the historic almshouses opposite the school. Many of our families will know that this remains a special connection today, with pupils visiting each year to sing Christmas carols for residents.

Mr Griffiths said:

"We want our children to feel connected to the community around them and understand that they are part of something bigger than themselves. Discovering that their classrooms were once hospital wards has really brought history to life and sparked so much curiosity and excitement. I particularly enjoyed spending time with the children in Sparrows Class, looking at the historical artefacts they had uncovered and hearing their ideas and questions. Their enthusiasm for learning about the building's past was wonderful to see."

It has been fantastic to see the children approach this project with such curiosity, asking thoughtful questions, investigating clues from the past and bringing Harrogate's history to life through their learning. By discovering the stories behind their school building, they are developing a deeper understanding of both their local community and the people who came before them.
