Year 3 had a great Egyptian Day on Tuesday. They mummified oranges, created Clay Cartouches, where they carved their name in hieroglyphics and created fact files about Egyptian food and drink. Maths involved solving problems using the Egyptian number system. The children were fantastic and made a real effort with their wonderful Egyptian costumes.

We are delighted to have started another round of visits to Starbeck Library as part of our work around reading for enjoyment. This week Year 1 enjoyed exploring the children’s section of the library and were able to spend time reading and also use their library cards to borrow books. We are grateful to the team at Starbeck Library for their collaborative work with our school.

Harlow Carr Gardens was the destination for Year 1’s educational visit this week. They took part in a Discovering Plants workshop and found out about germination. They then took on the role of botanists and looked closely at plants growing in the gardens and recorded what they found. The children also considered what names they could give these plants, coming up with ideas such as Chocolate Bell, Rainbow Spike and Purple Finger flower.
Everyone planted some nasturtium seeds which, when germinated, will be planted out around school.

Our Wellbeing Afterschool Club have had a very busy but fun 5 weeks. The children have been busy clearing the allotment and planting beetroot, onions, potatoes and carrots. They also made planters, lanterns and bird feeders. A big thank you to Mrs Duck and the staff who have helped organise and run the club this half term.

Reception had a great time visiting Tropical World. They got a close-up look at some colourful frogs and were able to see the butterfly life cycle in action along with a variety of other creatures. The children then enjoyed a lovely picnic outside, followed by an educational workshop, where the children all got involved in singing and dancing whilst learning about where and how different creatures live around the world. 🦋🐠🐸🦎

Our head pupils should be very pleased to see their playground ideas have been put into action. They consulted with children through school council about having a variety of sports and activities at lunch times. They shared their ideas with our senior leaders and sport lead teacher. We were then able to allocate some of our sports premium to provide the equipment they needed. Year 6 children then organised all the activity boxes. Sport leaders will be helping to deliver the activities each lunchtime on the playground and filed. Well done

Year 3 recently enjoyed an educational day out in Knaresborough. It was such a beautiful day and the children did so well walking to and from Knaresborough!
They stopped in the forest during their walk to create some wonderful artwork with nature, then carried on along the riverside and up the steps to the castle. They enjoyed a picnic lunch then explored around the castle before walking back to school. The children loved seeing all the aspects that they had learnt about during our Knaresborough topic last half term.

Our Year 3 classes have been truly inspired by their Ancient Egyptians history topic and have shown amazing enthusiasm for their homework projects. The results are individually brilliant and are currently being admired on display in school.

Year 1 & 2 loved their educational visit to Askham Bryan at the end of the term. They enjoyed looking around the wildlife park and taking part in workshops related to their science learning from the spring term. Year 1's session was all about the classification of animals and whether animals were herbivores, omnivores or carnivores.
Year 2 learned about habitats and minibeasts.
