After enjoying a traditional fondue dinner last night, our Year 12 Physics students were up bright and early for another exciting day of exploring. Today’s highlights included a visit to a hydroelectric dam, a scenic boat cruise on the lake, and a walk to the iconic Jet d’Eau. This evening, they’re looking forward to dinner at an Italian restaurant before another early start tomorrow. Another fantastic day of learning and making memories!

A huge thank you to dedicated students and Lay Chaplain Mrs Shores for representing St. Aidan’s Church of England High School so brilliantly at the Church on Show stand during this year’s Great Yorkshire Show. 💙🙏

This year’s theme, “Journeying with Jesus,” gave visitors the opportunity to explore the life and teachings of Jesus, with our students proudly sharing a display based on the Parable of the Good Samaritan. They even had the honour of welcoming the Archbishop of York to the stand to showcase their work.

Throughout the week, our fantastic student volunteers gave their time with enthusiasm, warmth and confidence. A special thank you to Emma and Grace (Year 13), Emma and Sophia (Year 12), and Bethan and Lottie (Year 11) for being such wonderful ambassadors for our school.

Thank you all for living out our values of service, compassion and community—you have made us incredibly proud. ⭐️💙

This academic year, a group of over 30 Year 12 students completed an IRIS project titled ‘Earth Observation’.

This required students to teach themselves how to analyse satellite data and then use their skills to conduct their own research project before producing an academic research poster.

Students researched a wide variety of topics including effects of wildfires, emissions from volcanoes and impacts of global warming.

The students were delighted receive their certificates today and to see their printed posters for the first time. They are excited to see them up on display in the science corridor.⭐️

A group of dedicated Year 12 Media students recently volunteered their time and talents to complete a filming project for Harrogate Skills 4 Living, a local Harrogate-based charity which provides care, education, support and accommodation to people in the Harrogate District with learning disabilities and autism. Working together behind the camera, the students worked together to create and edit engaging content to showcase the charity’s important work within the community.

Charity CEO, Julia Moor commented

“..the promotional videos look great and will be put to good use. Well done to the students who took part, I can already envisage lots more filming opportunities that could be mutually beneficial....”

The project provided valuable real-world experience while making a meaningful difference for a great cause. A huge thank you to both the students involved for their creativity, professionalism, and commitment, and to the team at HS4L for providing this opportunity and for their support, encouragement and direction.

We look forward to partnering again with the charity in the future.
