When children get home from one of our residentials, it’s often our team they talk about most.
Because our staff are brilliant at getting to know every child in the group, making them feel included and encouraging them to push themselves out of their comfort zone.
And this is what children remember long after they’ve returned home.
Thank you to Harris Mayflower Academy for this lovely review! 😊
It’s always great to hear about the positive impact our staff have had on camp.

As Business Development Manager, Sophie’s involved in all areas of the business, with a particular focus on developing our bushcraft and nature-focused programmes – where her Master’s in Global Biodiversity Conservation comes in very handy!
Here she tells us what she enjoys most about working at Rootd and why she enjoyed residentials so much as a child…
“I love being part of such a passionate team of genuinely lovely people. I really enjoy learning from others and love that we all have such different backgrounds and interests, but the outdoors brings us all together.
“I loved residentials as a child. I was the classic creative, nature-loving kid and extracurriculars like residential trips allowed me to explore those parts of myself - meeting inspirational people and discovering things I was interested in that I may never have had the opportunity to discover in day-to-day school.”
And a fun fact about Sophie?
“In every country I visit, I try to see a new animal in the wild. I’ve been lucky enough to see baby orangutans swinging in the jungle of Borneo, swim with reef sharks and get up close and personal with black bears in Yosemite!”

Pupils experience all the excitement of sleeping close to nature, along with the comfort and reassurance of heating in the pods, cosy bunk beds, night-toilets and motion sensor lighting.
We were delighted to hear how much Cavendish School enjoyed their stay in our pods, and we look forward to welcoming more Year 3s this month! 😀

We have all heard the tale of the easter bunny, hopping about, leaving chocolate eggs wrapped in colourful foil tucked amongst the flowers. However, where did this story come from, and do bunnies ever lay eggs?
🥚 This egg-giving tradition has actually existed for thousands of years, though the original easter eggs were intricately painted chicken & duck eggs!
🐦 In rural Britain, Lapwings and other ground-nesting birds lay their eggs in shallow nests in open grassy fields.
🐰 As people would walk across the grassy green fields of Britain, they would disturb hares hiding in the grass. To the walkers, the hares seemed to be racing away from little nests of eggs, therefore beginning the story of the easter bunny leaving an egg hunt!
