I often find that when children return to familiar resources, we see some of the deepest learning. Here, through repetition and pattern-making, children are noticing relationships, predicting what comes next and developing the foundations of mathematical thinking. The familiarity of the experience allows them to concentrate deeply, refine their ideas and build increasingly complex patterns over time.

Happy 2 Years, Cosmos! 💜🥳

Two years ago, Cosmos opened its doors with a dream: to create a place where children feel safe, valued, inspired and deeply connected.

Since then, it has been a joyful rollercoaster of learning, growth, challenges, celebrations, laughter and countless unforgettable moments. We have learned so much, not only about running a nursery, but about ourselves, our community and the incredible privilege of being part of children's earliest years.

What began as a vision has grown into something far greater than we ever imagined, and that is because of the wonderful people who have been part of the journey.

To our children, thank you for reminding us every day to see the world with curiosity, wonder and joy.

To our families, thank you for trusting us with your precious children and for supporting us, encouraging us and believing in what we do.

To our incredible team, thank you for standing alongside us through every step of the journey. Your dedication, kindness, patience and passion are what make Cosmos such a special place. I am deeply grateful for the support you have given me over the last two years.

Cosmos is, and always has been, a family-run business. After our first year, my husband Andy joined me on this adventure, and together we have poured our hearts into building something meaningful for children and families in our community. We feel incredibly fortunate to share this journey not only as business partners, but as a family.

As we celebrate our second birthday, our hearts are full of gratitude. Thank you for being part of the Cosmos story so far.
Here's to many more years of learning, laughter, growth and community together. 💜🌱

With gratitude and love.

Dominique and the entire Cosmos, Kinder Harmony Team.

Inclusive Practice starts with belonging…

At Cosmos Nursery & Kindergarten, we believe that every child deserves to feel seen, understood, valued and celebrated for who they are.

Inclusive practice is not something we do for a small number of children. It is at the heart of everything we do. It shapes our environments, our relationships, our curriculum and the way we support every child and family who joins our community.

As part of our commitment to inclusion, we would like to introduce Elysia Mountford, our Nursery Manager and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENCo).

Alongside leading the day-to-day operation of the nursery, Elysia works closely with children, families, practitioners and external professionals to ensure that every child can access meaningful opportunities to learn, develop and thrive.

Her role includes supporting children with emerging or identified additional needs, guiding practitioners, working in partnership with families and helping to ensure that appropriate support is put in place when required.

Most importantly, Elysia is here to listen.
Whether families have concerns about communication, development, wellbeing, behaviour, learning, sensory needs or simply want to talk through their child’s progress, Elysia is available to offer guidance, reassurance and support.

We recognise that parents know their children best, and we believe that strong partnerships between home and nursery are essential in helping every child flourish.

We have also recently launched a new section on our website, “Our Commitment to Inclusive Practice.” Here you’ll find more information about our inclusive values, our SEND provision and how we work to create a culture of belonging for every child and family.

Because inclusion is not about helping children fit into a system.
It’s about creating environments where every child can be themselves, feel a sense of belonging and reach their full potential.

Adults often seek novelty.

Children often seek repetition.

Perhaps children understand something we have forgotten.

That mastery, meaning and understanding are not found in constantly moving on, but in returning.

Piece by piece. Experience by experience. Until suddenly, the whole tree comes into view.

Just like learning.

Before worlds are written about, they are played into existence. A small collection of figures, a few translucent blocks and a child’s imagination become something far greater: a place where stories unfold, possibilities emerge and creativity knows no boundaries - Kinder Harmony

Homes change. Rooms change. Faces come and go. But the heart of a community remains.

As we say goodbye to families moving on and welcome new families through our doors, we are reminded that every child brings something wonderfully unique. Different cultures, experiences, languages and traditions weave together to create the rich tapestry of our Cosmos family.

Transitions can bring both excitement and emotion, but at the heart of every journey is a sense of belonging. We cherish the memories made with those leaving us and warmly embrace the families who are just beginning their Kinder Harmony story.

Thank you to those who have been part of our journey, and welcome to those just beginning theirs. There is always space here for everyone to belong.

Creativity doesn’t always look like paintbrushes, pencils or art easels.

Today, as I watched a child navigate a climbing structure, I was reminded that some of the most creative thinking happens through movement.

With each step, reach and adjustment, the child was problem-solving, assessing risk, testing theories and making decisions about how to position their body. There was no prescribed outcome, no right or wrong way, just a child thinking creatively in response to a physical challenge.

Physical development is so much more than building strength and coordination. It is deeply connected to critical thinking, resilience, confidence and creativity.

Children must constantly adapt, plan, predict and respond to their environment as they move through it.
As educators, our role is not to lead every step, but to observe carefully, know when to offer support and when to step back, allowing children the space, time and autonomy to discover their own capabilities. It is within these moments of self-motivated exploration that some of the richest learning takes place.

At Cosmos, we value environments that invite children to move, explore, take manageable risks and develop an understanding of what their bodies can achieve. Through physical challenges, children are not only developing fundamental movement skills, they are learning to think creatively, solve problems and believe in themselves.

Sometimes creativity is found in a paint pot. Sometimes it’s found halfway up a climbing frame.

Through matching, sorting and comparing colours, children develop problem-solving skills, critical thinking and attention to detail. Open-ended resources invite exploration without a prescribed outcome, allowing children to follow their own ideas, test theories and discover patterns at their own pace.

Time to bath our babies. 👶🏻 🧼 🚿

Children enjoyed caring for their babies during home corner play, drawing on familiar experiences from home. Through washing and caring for the dolls, they are developing empathy, learning to look after others and taking on small responsibilities. This type of role play supports children’s understanding of the world around them and allows them to explore cause and effect as they discover how their actions, such as washing and scrubbing, create changes. These meaningful experiences help to build confidence, independence and caring relationships.
