Just before starting Reception Class, your child may be going through some different emotions. Learning to manage emotions is a really important skill for your child and will help them to build positive relationships with others, adapt their behaviour to different situations, enjoy trying new challenges, and explore learning as they grow. Sadly, we often hear stories of children who received horrific burns from hot drinks whilst out and about. If you’re visiting somewhere that serves hot drinks please remember:

☕A hot drink takes 15 minutes to cool down to a temperature that will not scald a young child
☕Be mindful of where you place hot drinks. Children can often reach further than we think.
☕Don’t let children run around anywhere that’s serving hot drinks
☕Avoid passing hot drinks over children or drinking your hot drink when your child is on your lap.

‘Formal’ teaching of phonics takes place in schools and is made up of different phases which children learn when they are ready. But before this comes phonological awareness, which is being able to hear and distinguish sounds in words and sentences such as rhyme and alliteration. This is an auditory skill; what you can hear, not what you can see and read! Please visit this link from our website to find out more about phonological awareness: https://www.tlc-essex.info/resource/phonological-awareness/

A pool float with an overhead sunshade sounds like a great idea. But a canopy can actually put your baby at risk instead of protecting them.

That’s because the wind can catch the canopy, lifting the float out of the water, capsizing it and trapping your baby underwater.

Plus, your baby can drift away out of your reach, when you need to keep them in arm’s reach in water to keep them safe.

Because the design is unsafe, they are being recalled. Please don’t buy one if you see one on sale.

Bridget says she’s ‘Cracking down on hidden childcare fees’. We know that the funding doesn’t meet our costs, and that each setting will have wildly different circumstances. It doesn’t work. NOW is the time to act. Make sure you’re heard!

Contrary to the recent Department for Education post, the Competitions and Markets Authority early years study is *not* a "crackdown" on "hidden childcare fees".

It is a wide-scale review of the early years market, which examines the pressures on providers as well as the challenges facing families.

Crucially, the CMA says that it will pay "particular attention to the role of government policy and public bodies" and the study will look at "how prices, affordability for families and provider sustainability are shaped by underlying cost drivers for providers and government funding".

Providers: it is so important to ensure that your voice is heard in this review. Find out more about how you can get involved on our website: https://www.eyalliance.org.uk/news-events/blogs/competition-markets-authority-early-year-market-study-what-happens-next/
